| Jan (?) 2011 - Nov 3, 2011 JJ wasn't my first bird, but she was the first bird I developed a real bond with. From the time I met her, on her first day in an open cage, until Oct 24, when I had to leave town for what ultimately turned out to be the death of a family member, I spent every day with her. During those months, she was left at home no more than a dozen times - she was always by my side. I'll never forget the first time I saw her, she hadn't even fledged yet. I walked around a corner intending to show my husband the "big birds," the 'toos, and a B&G that were there, and in the end of the playpen run, I see this little tiny blue-green spitfire come running towards me, peeping for all it's worth. It ran to the edge of the cage and sat there peeping and flapping at ME. Now, all you people with bird experience will say that as yet unweaned bird just saw me and thought, "FOOD!" But it wasn't like that. She didn't do that with everyone, not even close. J-bird and I had a special bond from the moment we met. Many of you reading this will know what I'm talking about, some of you haven't experienced it yet, but that kind of bond is real and we had it. I made my purchase that day. I'd have sold my car to get that bird... I didn't have to, thank goodness, because I'd need it in the ensuing days to get up there to see her. I was at the store every day, often arriving at 7:00 or 7:30 for her morning feeding, to see her. Frequently I'd stay up there for 4-5 hours a day just holding her while she slept. I brought my own chair in... I became a fixture in that place. I later figured out that I spent well over $200 in gas going to and from the store just to visit the bird. I didn't miss a day from the time I met her until the time she came home with me. I have so many stories about her I could share... she's the most wonderful bird I could ever imagine having. Maybe in time, I'll be able to come here and write them down, I don't know. All I know now is that I miss her every moment of every day and everywhere I look I see something that reminds me of her. I wrapped her in one of my grandfather's handkerchiefs and buried her beneath the Crabapple Tree in our backyard where I used to get branches for her to climb and chew on. JJ was only a baby, about nine months old, but I know she lived a full, rich, nine months. I read in a book that there are birds in Heaven. I really hope that's true, because I'm counting on seeing her again. | |

| I know it doesn't change things or make the loss any better for you, but knowing she was loved and is now peaceful should be of some comfort to you. She was a beautiful girl and her memory will never die. | |
