PostSubject: plucking questions!   Mon Nov 28, 2011 7:26 pm

hey guys sorry i havnt been on in a while ive been super busy anyways i had a couple questions about mikko and her plucking:
1.) how will i know if she stopped plucking? i see the little white feathers that marty looses to on her cage so im not sure if that means she stopped or if she plucks those to
2.) how will i know if the feathers were molted or if she plucked them
3.) how will i know if her feathers will grow back?
Ill put an update up in a little bit and upload some picks for you guys! things have been going very well!

The white molting feathers you will find everywhere and I wouldn't worry about them too much. They fall out naturally AND are plucked out. If Mikko is pulling regular feathers, specifically in her chest, it could be a combination of anxiety, since she's had a rough few weeks, and the fact that its getting colder and the air is getting drier. Mist her often and try using a humifier and see if that helps. Also, there's a product called "feather in" which looks like unbleached flour. You put it in their food and it does help with feather growth.

The feather in will help her then, its a supplement. We used it when we got Ecko and he was almost all bald when we got him, now he has all but his permanently damaged ones back

We actually use a sock buddy on Ecko. Its a baby sock that's cut to fit and looks like a cute hoodie. I hope to actually make a handful soon to be able to sell. Right now he's sporting his 80s hairband retro leopard sock buddy Smile

Sadly I feel a socky buddy won't help mikko because she plucks her wings to Sad and her poor little legs! You should see them they look awful!

You really can't keep them from plucking wings, they still have to groom themselves unfortunately.
