| I want a bourke to take visiting with me at the nursing home and at schools. I've decided that's going to be my next goal - to take my tame birdies out into the community so others can enjoy them too, and they can be socialized. If I get a pretty baby out of the clutch my hen is on now, I'll keep it for a breeder/pet and take it with me too! | |

The little birds, if you take them out all the time, they act like they're not even being moved around. EC used to take her two bourkes EVERYWHERE in a carrier. Toddlers aren't really very gentle. She'd be swinging the carrier like a purse and the bourkes didn't seem to mind. They'd be hanging on, munching away on millet, taking sips of water, or just looking around. The motion's probably additional enrichment, like being on a swaying branch.

| I'll trade you some beautiful tame budgies for one tame beautiful bourke! (Of course, I have to HAVE the budgies first...). Those birds are the most precious things I've ever seen in my whole life! EVER! | |

| Yes, I'm a kook. I breed and handfeed finches every once in a while.
EC historically has had tame finches for pets too.

EC's EvilChicken. I handfeed the zebras from 10 days of age. I *think* you can tame one, but it's probably easier to have a tame one by handfeeding it. It's very labor intensive though - every 2 hours for 20 hours out of 24 until weaning. They don't taper off and extend hours as they age.
