Bird Bread Empty
PostSubject: Bird Bread   Bird Bread EmptySat May 21, 2011 10:12 am

I make a couple different versions of a very basic bird bread recipes that my guys love to pick at.

Basic Bird Bread
1 box Cornbread Mix
1 Egg, shell included
1 cup fresh or frozen vegetables

Mix the cornbread mix as directed on the package. Add the extra egg and egg shell, and the fresh or frozen vegetables. Bake as directed.

To alter this, I take fresh broccoli florets and roast them before adding them to the mix. I've also added roasted cauliflower and sweet potatoes. Occasionally I'll add hard boiled egg bits.

Pumpkin Bread for Birds
1 large can cooked pumpkin
1/2 cup canola oil
1/2 cup honey (I'm allergic and can't touch the stuff so I use agave syrup)
2 well ripened bananas
2 eggs and ground shells
3/4 cup wheat germ
1 cup wheat bran
2 cups whole wheat flour
2 cups all purpose flour

Add ingredients one at a time to bowl. I prefer to mix dry and wet ingredients in two different bowls, but it's not necessary. Stir all ingredients until completely blended. Spray two baking dishes with non stick cooking spray. Bake at 400F for one hour.

To alter this, I also add ground fruit pellets, a seed blend, and some dried fruit. I've been known to add some greek yogurt or baby food.
