Tomorrow I'm Going Home... Empty
PostSubject: Tomorrow I'm Going Home...   Tomorrow I'm Going Home... EmptyTue Dec 20, 2011 6:42 pm

I've mentioned this a few times already, but I'm going to make a thread about it. Tomorrow morning I'll be flying back home for Christmas.

I'll be gone from the 21st to the 29th.

This is my first time flying alone. I've flown hundreds of times before, but this is the first time without friends or family. I'm kind of nervous about it. But, I guess I'm an "adult" now, so I just got to buck up.

A friend from the University is staying home this Christmas holiday so she can get some more hours in at work. Thankfully, she's agreed to keep an eye on the birds.

This isn't the first time I've left on vacation. Last Spring I went to Mexico for a couple of weeks, and I had one of my parent's employees come every other day to check up on them and everything was fine. But I'm still really nervous and upset about leaving them.

They won't get any out of cage time when I'm gone. The girl who is watching them isn't really bird savvy, and I wouldn't really want her chasing around after the budgies.

Last time I went on vacation, they were still in their small pet store cages. Now, they have their nice big flight cages. Plus, I bought a big bag of spray millet. I'm going to tell her to give them a spray of it every other day. I don't usually give them so much, and usually just use it for a special treat or handling the budgies. But, I figure, it will give them all something to keep their minds occupied (especially poor Einstein).

I made up a list of things she needs to do. One of the top things is "Talk to Einstein". I'm his world, he follows me everywhere, and cries when he doesn't know where I am. He's going to be really torn about me not being there.... Tomorrow I'm Going Home... 2643855592

She's coming around at 6 tonight. I'm kind of curious to see how Einstein is going to react to her. I don't ever have visitors (I'm kind of a hermit), so Einstein doesn't get much people socialization. During Thanksgiving when my Grandparents were here, Einstein was such the little gentlemen. He stepped up for them, and showed off all his singing talents and said all his words. He is quite the charmer.

Too funny!

I actually kind of enjoy flying alone. No need to worry about someone else's sense of timing or if they are going to stress out about something. I just need to get me from here to there and curl up with a book. Then again, my theme song is probably "I did it my way!" LOL.

I think you should name him Hawkings.

Two boys in the same household. . . fun. . . our boys keep each other company for sure. But it does seem a lot like a couple of siblings (even though there's no way Eric and Sam know they're half sibs and are years apart in age). I'll wait for EC to chime in on their dynamics. There's a lot of bickering, no real fighting, and the two of them cannot stand on the same hand together without one getting pushed off.

Orrrrr... you could do what I do and just take Einstein with you and leave the budgies there for her to take care of. You could carry him on the plane very easily and could get and keep a smaller cage to leave at M&SD's house for when you visit. (Just another point of view!)

Sounds the same like 2 female 'tiels. I'm not sure about Mickey, but being a lutino. s/he has 75% chances to be a girl. So I think I have 2 female cockatiels. They are ok, but so far in that short time, similar situation: they can't stay in one hand together in the same time without hissing like snakes. But that's how it ends, only showing, never fighting.

Yeah, there's never any full out fighting. I wonder if either of my 'tiels even realizes he can bite. They just have... tiffs. Shoving and yelling at each other. And that's only when they're stuck on a short perch together. Totally remind me of a couple human boys; "Dude, you're standing too close." "Then move." "I'm not moving, you move! *shove*" "Dude! *shove back*" And eventually one wins the shove-fest and returns to preening, and whoever fell gets picked up with the other hand and happily starts preening too. They're little nuts Very Happy

They do undoubtedly like each other though, because if I pick up one and leave the room the other starts calling. They stop calling after a minute or two though, so it's nice that they're not inseparable. Sam gets over it and goes about his business. Eric gets over separation from Sam even more easily when he's with me and insists I scritch him. Eric sounds very like Einstein in terms of sweetness towards people, so I think Einstein would be okay if you got another 'tiel.

They also teach each other neat sounds Smile For some reason Eric picks up different sounds than Sam, and then they teach each other. But since neither of them mimics perfectly they have their own versions of the same sounds.

Also - Don't worry too much about flying alone, you will be fine, and Einstein and the budgies will welcome you home when you get back Thumbs-up

I'm sitting I toronto airport right now, waiting for my connecting flight home. Porter is actually a pretty decent airlines. The cheapest, offer free meal, plus they served alcohol.
I don't really drink, but when they offered me a glass of wine, I took it happily.

There's apparently freezing rain in Ottawa right now...

Given that she wrote from the airport, I have to say that would be SOME flight recall!

LOL

Well, I'm home and safe. I've spent the past couple of hours cuddling with my dog. As soon as he saw me, he went into a crazed frenzy. He's following me everywhere and it's like I never left! I got him one of his favorite types of toys, and he's going bonkers over it. Right now I'm laying in my old room. It's been turned into a movie room. Kind of weird, but the surround sound is pretty awesome.

I would of loved to take Einstein with me! But, there's a couple reasons why that really wouldn't work.

a) The travel cage I have for him is a stanard budgie cage. It's great for travelling, but it really wouldn't be suitable for a week.

b) My room is a movie room. They have taken off the door. It would be unsafe as I have a dog in the house. Also, this is parent property now. The room is now filled with nick-nacs and breakables. It's a danger zone.

c)I think it would stress him out. It would be a new environment, and I wouldn't be around very much. My mom has planned everything for my trip. He would be stuck in that small cage, without me. We are also having people over, which will make the place loud.
