Hi everyone

Hello, I don't have a bird yet, but have been researching them with the thought of possibly getting one in the future. My mom has a blue green cheeked conure and a good friend of mine has a quacker. I really like both of them for different reasons. I live with my boyfriend right now in a small apartment and am planning on getting a full-time job in the near future. He's gone most of the day, so there will be a good part of the day that the bird will be at home alone and need to entertain himself. I also need to make sure that the bird I get will be a fairly nice bird (in general) because when I go out of town (not often, but it does happen), my mom or my friend will be the one keeping him/her for me, and I want it to be able to get out of it's cage with their birds. I can't wait to learn from everyone.

Julsiebean, my friends bird makes a sound that sounds just like a duck! It's so funny, he makes that sound and we start laughing at him, then he starts laughing at us and we start laughing harder! It's better than a cocktail! He also makes a purring sound and says several words, he's a real cutie!

Up here in Canada Quakers aren't illegal to own - I love the little head shaking they do when they quack though

Hi there and welcome!

Quakers are definitely funny little birds but they have HUGE personalities, hard bites, loud sounds and will rule the roost and you if you aren't assertive. At least that's my experience with them. But the little gal I had for a while was a huge cuddle-bug and a great talker and she kept herself busy weaving leather string all over her cage. Another thing with Quakers is that they can be cage-aggressive so you'd have to ensure you did certain things to minimize that behaviour as well.
