Subject: Some Cow News! Sat Dec 17, 2011 9:50 pm
So, it's been a while since I've mentioned the cows. Well today I called my parents, and they had some news. They had bought 35 acres of farm land!
My parents are always making obscure purchases. This has got to take the cake.
The property we are keeping the cows at now is rented property.
My stepdad had been talking about purchasing our own land for them. But 35 acres...
Apparently the property has a house on it. Because who doesn't need two homes?
My stepdad says he wants to eventually get 40 head of cattle. It's ludicroous! My parents run a 40 fleet trucking company, a mechanic shop, and two chip trucks. How he thinks he can manage all those things...ugh.
He has also given an acre of land to all the kids. So if we want, we can all build houses on them. The whole situation is just ridiculous. I'm done ranting about that...back to the cows!
My baby is Eugene. He's not the guy in the display picture. He's a big black monster with big ole horns. He actually looks the most intimidating. But he is a puppy dog trapped in a bulls body. My stepdad is always telling me how he follows him around. He is such a clown. He loves his horns and chin scratched. Back in the summer he would lay down and I'd give him belly rubs.
Now my stepdad is falling for him. He says hes considering not selling or killing him and keeping him as a pet! I wish that acre of land was here...

You know, having an acre of land set aside to live on is not such a bad insurance policy assuming the land is likely to be paid for before you'd occupy it. Your parents sound very... busy... but right now I sure wish I owned an acre.

So glad to hear a happy update! I've wondered about your moomoobabies, but I never asked as I really didn't want the news that they're in the freezer.

If I had stayed at home, and not gone off to university, I would of trained him to ride. Because I'm that awesome.

Congrats on the purchase - they probably did it now, as the city is growing more towards your place, and Carleton Place has exploded...get it while it's still affordable.
You should keep Eugene. How could you kill a cow named Eugene? He sounds too smart and would outwit the slaughter machines anyhow!
An Acre of land for...a really super Aviary for your Fids

LOL I wish!
I hate that the town is growing. I like the small town feel.
If it were up to me, Eugene would be on a first class flight up north to live with me and my birds in my apartment...but that's just not going to happen
I'm going home on Wednesday, and my stepdad is going to be having me work on the farm every morning. I'll be sure t get some pictures and videos of the growing boys.

That's all such wonderful news! I know you miss Eugene and it's so cool that your stepdad is thinking about keeping him! After all, you'll need a bull for the cows, right?!
And FWIW, I think the names are GREAT!

Shoot. Can domestic cattle be taught to do stuff like plow fields like water buffalo? Train him to be "useful" then they can't eat him. I like the riding thing.

Well, I didn't get a chance to take any videos or pictures of them. But, my stories are always just as good
They are MASSIVE now. Well, not fully grown, but still. They're big monkeys. And they have their winter fur. This is their first winter outside, and I think they really like the snow. When I got home, there was a snow storm. It was so funny, they all had snow on their heads.
Whenever they heard the truck, they came running to the gate. They are so people oriented. They run right to you, mooing like their lives depended on it. The one day, we needed to plow the snow, and when we started, I think it startled them or something, because they all started bucking and playing around. It was so cute.
Sadly, they seemed skittish of me. But, my good old faithful Eugene seemed to recognize me. He went up to me, sniffed my hand, and gave me a big old lick. His horns are really coming in. He's such a beautiful guy. But man, has he ever gotten big and fat! Like, he is seriously big enough to carry me around.
The one girl, she's a pedigree black angus. She was stunning. You can really tell she's been well bred. She had this look about her. She stands, and you swear your looking at a milk ad.
I know a lot of people think that cows are just big stupid meat machines. But they really are awesome.
