| Well now those people won't leave their dogs in the car at all.
I'm sorry, but people who leave their pets in the vehicle are friggin stupid.

| I know multiple vets who leave their animals in the car - when it's temperature appropriate.
What? All animals should never leave the house and be socialized, except for the occasional walk around the block (if even that-how many pets never leave their house/property - ever)? Sounds like encouragement to NEGLECT your animal's emotional desires to be a part of your pack/flock and just leave them at home. JMHO.

| Those couples was really not lucky that day. I do understand cops intervention, because dogs stay while in car, but they should be trained to use they brains more often...
The other day I was cleaning place with a cute German Sheppard. I let her out, like always. I was busy with cleaning, when cop knock to the door with dog. Dog jumped through the fence and was "scaring neighbors". Cop just shaken his head and I promised I'd never let her out w/o supervision. (She is so sweet, that I have no idea how she could "scaring neighbors") The point of my story, that was policeman with brain.

| LEO was apparently able to call the people on their phone AFTER they destroyed the car. . . No one thought to ring them beforehand? LEO can run the plate in a few seconds and obtain contact info. | |

| I wonder, what kind of stupid excuse they'll find for that: The dogs was in huge danger and they need to react fast? (55 degrees) | |

| I agree that the response was probably over the top, especially since with half a brain they could have phoned the owners ahead or time, or gone looking in local businesses. But locking your dogs in the trunk isn't exactly optimal behavior. The firefighters got called because passersby heard the dogs in the TRUNK apparently. Not clear the owners are being exactly honest about what they did.
Although it was cool, if the car was parked in a non-shaded location, especially if the windows were not cracked open, the temperature could easily have risen quite a bit higher than the ambient temperature of 55. Cars make good greenhouses.
I'd leave a dog or other animal in the car on a cool day with the window cracked open to run a quick errand, but not to go inside a restaurant for a sit-down meal. And I wouldn't lock them in the trunk under any circumstances. I think the owners deserved to be censured, but wrecking the car was beyond what the situation called for, they should have made at least a cursory attempt to locate the owners first.
