 Umm...

So...Sparrow has a bright yellow and red feather growing in the middle of the back of his neck. scratch It isn't even like...the normal GCC color of gold or maroon-y. It is BRIGHT red and BRIGHT yellow. What the...??

I would guess something has gone haywire with the follicle. Sounds as if he's lost the blue pigment from the "recipe" for that feather. No idea what would cause that. Possibly a benign mutation? I'm sure the folks who have had tons of birds may have seen this before...

Maybe he's got a yellow-sided follicle stuck in there for some reason. Allie has bright yellow and bright red... but neither are on her neck. thinking

Bird have been known to molt in different colors over time, sometimes colors that are a radical departure from the known colors for the species. Who knows? Maybe you'll have a bright red and yellow GCC eventually.

I know with tekkies the males sometimes get yellow "vests," which is because of them plucking so much and messing with the follicles so that when the feathers come back they're discolored. I can't remember if they said it eventually corrects itself though thinking

I know some of the hen zons grow yellow feathers where ther male have plucked them from their head and neck.
