| uhhhh, is it possible for a bird to fake a limp??? Rory gets this ripper of a limp going on at times, he'll be running along the floor and then limps for 10 seconds or so and then is fine he'll do it on either side too We visited the vet yesterday (for nail trimming) and she said as far as she could tell without doing xrays he was perfectly fine, and it could very well be a learn behaviour, like a baby learning they get attention when they cough, he could have learnt he gets attention when he limps ... | |

| Don't see why not. They're smart enough. Horses fake limping. | |

| Certainly seems plausible to me. How about a video? I'd love to see it. | |

| I've actually never known a horse to fake lameness. Be bridle lame, yes, fake no. Be stiff and work out of it, yes, fake no. Horses aren't generally that devious IME. Birds I'm not so sure about!
I can definitely imagine a bird could learn this behavior. OTOH, I can also imagine they might get an occasional twinge or hung-up soft tissue. Every once in a while, my ankle gets "caught" -- hurts like the dickens for a step or two, then is fine.

| That's our other theory sns, that every few steps he gets a twinge or a stiff feeling and then it passes, but he's also the biggest sook in the world and at the slightest pain he screams and sooks and just NEEDS to be cuddled and scritched and loved over, I can't imagine him feeling an odd sensation or pain and being able to continue on chasing his pine nut or ball without protesting somehow. When the get was doing his nails, he squealed every time a nail was clipped, as tho it actually hurt. When she finished he ran and hid under her coller from the 'evil' clippers.
On an aside, she said they were the most well behaved GCCs she's had in, said the had very good manners (it helped that Tika waved to show her the toe that was bleeding, so cute), look very healthy and have a great relationship with us both while still obviously have a preference (Tika was flipping out with me holding her, Eddie picked her up and she flipped herself over to lay down and just laid there in his hand with nothing holding her down, she was just getting good scritches). I knew I wanted them done at the vet for a reason and not just do them ourselves. If anything the little pat on the head really has made us both feel better, and realise that we are doing a pretty good job with them, they're happy and healthy birds who're well adjusted and very social. I'm Happy with that, even if Rory still won't wave on cue like Tika does | |

| Oh and speaking of horses faking limps, I have one who'll exagerate being sore, such as him having a blood blister on the bottom of his hoof once(last time I use that farrier) which healed in a week or so, yet 5 weeks AFTER it'd healed he was still limping like He broke a leg when I led him on gravel or bitumen, mind you if you lunged him or rode him he never missed a beat, sook | |

| Well, some are more drama queens than others for sure. I rode a horse briefly that would hop around 3-legged if she ever touched a fence when jumping. But that's not the same as faking to get out of work. I've seen people claim their horses were doing that, but in every case I've personally witnessed, the horse really did have a physical issue of some type. | |
