| 1) He's afraid of children... at least very small girl scouts
2) He knows what a swing is and he needs one!
On Saturday I was cleaning house (and looking like the incredible frump from SlovenlyHouseWifea) when the doorbell rang. Tiny uniformed Brownie Scout with Daddy in tow selling cookies. I explained that I was just peering out the door because I didn't want the cats to run out, and she started asking all kinds of questions about my kitties. So when I went to take the money out to her, I figured it would be a good socialization opportunity for Scotty, who is typically much calmer than Scooter. He took one look at her and flew off back into the house. He NEVER flies. I picked him up and tried again, and he flew off again. Third try he stuck around, but just wanted to snuggle under my chin and make worried coos. He eventually relaxed enough to sit on my shoulder and look at her, but that was as good as it got. I was really surprised as he's never been worried before with people at the door, but I don't think we've had a child visit since we got him.
On Sunday I put together the nifty present Bill got for Scooter and I. It's an EZ Care Playgym thing with a bazillion toyhooks, a couple of built in ladders and a swing. Scooter hasn't decided yet if it's really all that interesting, but Scotty took one look and jumped on the swing and started really working it! It's the Small Bird playgym and the swing is rather undersized for him, but I'm going to have to get a more appropriate one and find a place to put it. Neither his tree nor his playtop has a suitably placed hook that would allow a swing to move freely.
Who knew? | |

I adore him, actually. He is fickle with Bill, but for me he's totally perfect. Well except for the fact that he's gone from being neat and easy to clean up after to grabbing a grape out of his bowl and taking it for a tour such that there is sticky juice and bits of grape peel on EVERYTHING.

| I'll have to take some new ones. I tried to get some video of him bathing, but it didn't turn out well at all. | |

| I don't really know if they are friends or not. We don't let them interact because of the size difference. Neither shows much interest in interacting, either. However, they are certainly used to living next door to each other! | |

| I maintain that Capes are the cutest birds EVER! They ALWAYS look like they're grinning as far as I'm concerned. I think if I didn't already have my bird quota met (or at a plan for having it be met), I'd be looking seriously at a Cape or a Jardine's as another addition to my feathered family. | |

| You might consider letting them have some supervised interaction... Allie and Caesar, while not buddies, are turning out to be quite handy for each other as far as mutual preening is concerned. | |

| If they had more interest, I might, but that beak is large and powerful compared to Scooter, I'm not sure it is worth the risk. Also, preening is one of the few things Scooter wants out of me! | |

| Capes must look different in person because they just don't appeal to me visually. Something about the beak/head. I love Jardines! I'd take a Hahns over one though. Honestly though, aside from a Grey the only other kind of bird on the "big" side I would want/have is another zon. |

| Have you seen Truman's video? It's beyond adorable! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVj-R_hXeuAI guess you feel that way about Capes as I do with Timneh Greys. They have to be the most unattractive parrot I've ever seen. | |

| Julie, I think the appearence grows on you.
Anita, it's interesting what Truman and Scotty do and don't share. Scotty does exactly that same wing and leg stretch, except early on I made a game out of saying "Good stretching" and imitating him and now he likes to do it and have me copy. I think he thinks he taught me a trick. He likes some of the same scratches, but he's not nearly as keen to lie on his back.
Vicki, they did in fact interact tonight and I had to grab Scotty. I had made a bridge from the new playgym to Scooter's cage to encourage him to explore on his own. Scotty wanted to have a go on the swing, but when he was done swinging, he quickly grabbed the ladder, ran across the bridge, ran up the bungee and started to growl at Scooter. Now he's back on his own cage hanging upside down from the bottom of the door.
