An IRN from last season that I sold to a couple in the Los Angeles (I think? Don't remember exactly) area.

This is how nice tame IRN's are. Given their "aloof" reputation, I don't think people know this. JUST DON'T WIPE YOUR HANDS ON THEM!! Don't touch the do.

He's really quite adorable. I could imagine having one!

I can't help wondering if that house is full of mirrors, though.

Scooter, who started out super-cuddly, is now less so. Every once in a while he really wants head scritches, or wants to hang out on me, but he's not the way he was as a sub-mature bird. I think realizing this is one of the things that has reduced the frequency with which I get chomped. Maybe he's part IRN!

Is that a hen? I don't see the ring... makes me think girl, but It's not a great picture. Anyway, I love how the bird only seems to say Peek-a-boo when he looks in the mirror!

What a cutie-pie!

I DNA'd it for them. It's a male. Ring can take up to 2 years to develop.

Fallacy that you have to handle them extensively every single day or they go wild. Once they're as tame as Gallifrey, they're very stable in niceness.

Yeah, humans want a lot of touchy feely, preening which isn't very natural for birds generally unless they're pair bonded. Being the mate of the bird - I can see where the animal finds it confusing. I wonder if we humans, as primates, are not getting enough grooming behavior with other primates of our own kind?

You know, not all IRNs aren't cuddly.

Agreed. But most aren't. I just feel you should choose a species more likely to exhibit the characteristics you like than to try to mold it into what you want, against its natural tendencies. I've always seen that as human domination - forcing a square peg into a round hole, "See! It can be done!"

What I like about Cockatiels, I can just smoosh them as I feel is necessary and they won't do more than a harmless few pecks.

See we have 3 aloof birds, 1 clingy bird and 2 who are half and half (LOVE cuddles, but they dont have to have them every minute of the day).
Prince is our most aloof, even tho he's tame and loves people, he'd rather sit on your shoulder and feed your ear than to have a hand come near him. He's sub a funny little clown.
