| We've decided to paint portions of our apartment this spring, and I am wondering if anyone has any tips on which paints to use to minimize risk to Poe. He'll be carted off to another room, with an open window and closed door at the other end of the apartment....
But it's still an apartment, and I would like to make sure I purchase a product with the lowest risk factor (if this is even a possibility).
Thank you! | |

| What he said. Lots of ventilation. Check out my thread on moving and fixing up, too, I recall Roz had a bunch of information there. | |

| When I was living at home, my parents painted a room that was upstairs where my room was located.
The room was on the other side of the floor. I kept my door shut, had the fan going and kept the window open.
Nothing bad happened, but God, did I worry.

I posted on your thread about noise level, but we had another big concern: Space. We have about 750sqft in our two bedroom apartment - which really isn't a lot, so we were concerned about having enough space for Poe, his home, all his toys, a play structure, etc etc etc. Innovation and improvisation have become strong suits. Poe's cage sits atop a shelving unit, so that we have somewhere for him, all his food, and some of our stuff. We've begun installing plant hooks throughout the living room with toys and swings hanging off of them, and we are looking into installing a long curtain rod somewhere for him to use. Basically, our entire living room is being converted into a Poe Play Place, because we have no where else to do it.

| I've used Behr paint in the past without any issues (and I've done a lot of painting in the past) - always when I can have the windows open in whichever room the trio are moved to. Ventilation seems to be key *sigh* Now we're laying the new linoelum flooring for the bird room this weekend (tore out the god awful original carpeting last weekend..it was nasty from whomever lived there before us). Hoping that with a week of airing out in our bedroom that it will minimize the time the trio will have to be relocated into the dining room downstairs. Merlin will have to be put into his travel cage (dog cage), and I always feel awful when that happens - the spacing is too big for Rosco's nosy head (Caique), so Merlin's the only one who downgrades with temporary moves | |
