Chicken and Dumplings Empty
PostSubject: Chicken and Dumplings   Chicken and Dumplings EmptyWed May 09, 2012 7:24 am

I think today is the last day for the big Red Rooster. 2 Roosters is one too many. I don't think Josie will be the one to "knock him in the head" but we'll see. I almost whacked him last night when he wouldn't go in the pen and so left him out all night, and it sounds like he survived the coons and owls.

Uh oh... I'm considering chickens on the new property, but this is an aspect I would not enjoy, even if it was tasty.

I don't have a problem with it but Josie raised this one from an egg, Not sure she's gonna let me do him in.

Um, it might be kinda hard to eat that "cute widdle ball of fuzz" that was in the incubator not all that long ago! LOL!

Then again - Josie may surprise you! She's FULL of surprises!!!

Chicken and Dumplings Empty
PostSubject: Re: Chicken and Dumplings   Chicken and Dumplings EmptyFri May 11, 2012 8:49 pm

OK the lastest update...Big Red is still alive. He's been locked in the new chicken pen by himself ( not a happy camper). The Mexican fellow who cleans the stables says he wants him.Not sure Big Red is getting much of a reprieve.Anyway things are so much calmer around here that Josie had to check on the chickens several times today to make sure everything was ok. The true " cock of the walk" is a Blue Andalusian who is younger than Big Red but had started kicking Red's butt.If Josie doesn't hatch some of these last eggs , i;m afraid Big Red is out of the gene pool.
