| This really isn't the way I'd want to tell you I bought a new budgie, but here it goes. I bought a beautiful little male budgie for Bonnie yesterday. She seems to be lonely, as Madoc and Clyde have paired up. Anyways, I brought him home last night. This evening, when I got home from work, I noticed that his wing had blood on it. After checking it out, it appears that both his wings have had their secondary feathers cut. There was dried blood on his one wing, and his other wing was bleeding. there is no blood on the bottom of the cage, so he must not of been bleeding all day. I quickly got some flour and cornstarch and carefully covered both wings. The bleeding has appeared to of stopped. I am furious. I called petsmart as soon as it looked like the bleeding had stopped. The lady told me I could bring back the bird for a refund. Screw you. Like I'd put this bird back in your care. I've never had Einstein or the budgies bleed like that before. Just Einsteins broken blood feathers that had no more than a drop of dried blood. The poor little guy doesn't even have a name yet. With a cut secondary feather, what should I do? I'm so scared and angry for him. The only reason I'm not in there with him right now is because I'm scared that me being there will cause more stress and cause him to bleed more. | |

| Apparently with the inos you can sometimes see the blood in the blood feather through the vein. I wonder if that's what Richard was alluding to. It can look like bleeding, but you wouldn't have actual blood on the surface.
A cut feather that isn't a blood feather shouldn't bleed, even if it's a secondary. Around here pet smart doesn't do wing trims, they come from the breeder however and just molt out. I'd look for damaged blood feathers if you see more evidence of bleeding. Trimming secondaries is only dangerous if it makes the bird clumsy and leads to falls, it's not inherently dangerous as far as I know.

| All that and they are more prone to bleeding issues with things like night frights and beating their wings on cage bars. You might also want to check his body where the cut feather ends might scrape /cut him. If that is what's happening then trim primaries beyond the secondaries, so they over lap cut ends. Be careful to cut them square and not leave sharp/pointed ends. | |

| This morning I took him out and checked his wing. No new blood. He seems to be eating and drinking. I'm still worried though. | |

| Oi...was he clipped before or after you chose him?
From the sounds of your intro post, he seems to be ok. If it wasn't ok...well it wouldn't be happy news.
Keep an eye on him, but don't be too stressed - they can feel that within you.
I woulnd't of brought him back either!

Yeah, I think I over-reacted a bit. I just want him to be okay.
