So were doing some work in the basement shortly and we were wondering if anyone knew if fresh concrete would harm our birds? thanks

Welcome to Paradise! Happy Welcome What kind and how many birds do you have?

I am certainly not an expert, but the biggest issues I see would be the dust until it is mixed (if you are using bags that you mix yourself), and any odour that may come off while the concrete is wet.

If the birds are down in the basement, I would suggest temporarily relocating them upstairs, just to be safe. If they are already upstairs, closing the basement door or hanging a tarp over the open doorway would probably minimize exposure and they would likely be okay. They are often hardier than we give them credit for, but it pays to be safe. pray

Just my opinion, though. Good luck!

thanks! Birds are on the first floor, were putting a new floor in the basement. nothing being mixed, all being pumped in from trucks. i wasnt sure if there was any kind of curing agent that might harm them. As of now theres 10.

a green cheek conure, 3 rehabed sparrows, 2 bourkes, 2 love birds, 1 cockatiel, 1 parakeet.

That is quite a flock!

If it were I, I'd just try to make sure the area where the birds are upstairs is well-ventilated and that the basement is closed off and ventilated if possible. I'm not aware of anything specifically worrying about concrete (but any sealer put on top might contain volatile compounds that could be harmful) but ventilation never hurts!
