PostSubject: State of the Forum 2013.    Tue Jul 16, 2013 7:50 pm

Denizens of Paradise,

As I am sure we have all noticed, the forum has been significantly less active in the past few months. Sadly, as life becomes busier, we are unable to dedicate time to post and check-in. With this in mind, I would like to thank everyone for their continued participation.

You may have noticed some recent changes to the forum. The forum has been reverted back to its free domain host. As I pay for the forum out of my own pocket, it has been more necessary to pay for life expenses. In the coming months, I hope to have our domain and personalized URL operating again. Should you feel the desire to donate to the maintenance and upkeep of the forum, there is the opportunity to do so by clicking the “donate” button on the bottom tool bar.

Now for a bit of forum business…

Our dear zazanomore has been promoted to an administrator. Please offer her the kindest of welcomes.

It is nearly August and this means Christmas is half-way here. Please start considering the Annual Secret Santa.

In the coming months, I am considering transferring the forum to another hosting service. Please check back regularly for the status of any changes. Right now, nothing is really set in stone and I am just checking some prices.

Please consider ways to promote and grow the forum. I love our small community feel, but I would love to see us more active as well!

Thanks Smile

Any ideas on how to make the forum more popular? Maybe ask Crystal to mention us in her site?

Congrats Zaza! Smile

I'm so glad I was able to re-find the forum. I got an email saying I had a new message here but when I tried to log in I couldn't... some sleuthing got me back!

Aw you remembered us! Very Happy I've missed the community here for sure.

We're good, thank you! Sputnik's talking up a storm and learning new words all the time (his current youtube favourite budgie is Disco... look him up - he's amazing!)

I've moved and gone back to school so things are very different for me, but I'm happier for the changes.

How are you and your flock doing?

You mind what I ask what school you're going to?

My flock are messy and loud as usual! Einstein is still my sweet heart and the budgies are still little terrors.

I don't remember if you were here to see me get Charlie the rehome. A girl from work knew I was good with birds, so she told me about her cockatiel. Her family didn't have the time for him. She asked if I would take him in, and of course I said yes!

He has since learned how to fly and has even said his first words!

Charlie sounds wonderful! But doesn't it make you crazy with so many birds? flappinhappy
That being said, there's another baby that I'm thinking about adopting next week!!! LOL. I have no rational thought left...

I'm attending the Alberta College of Art and Design for Visual Communications (graphic design). Yay!! I love spending all day being creative but it's an exhausting program. Only 2 more years to go though!

I think all bird owners are a little crazy to begin with. But adding Charlie really hasn't changed that much. He is a very quiet and clean bird. Charlie and all three budgies combined are still quieter than Einstein Laughing

Alberta? Hope you haven't been affected by the floods! My mom's family all live in Calgary and luckily none of them had damage.

Unfortunately yes, but not too badly. My condo building in Canmore got flooded, but not my unit as it's on the second floor. And I was evacuated for a week from my apartment in Calgary!! I was lucky because I have a sister living in the city whom I stayed with. Crazy stuff though hey? So many people affected. I'm glad to hear that your relatives didn't have damage. It seemed to affect so many areas of Calgary.

I agree that bird owners seem to be a little different from everyone else! Ha ha!

You've moved to attend school too, haven't you?

I now live in Canada's number one murder capital: Thunder Bay!

I live smack-dab in the middle of the ghetto, right in-between the inmate half way house and the homeless shelter. Which is fabulous.

Since moving here I have lived through one attempted break-in (nearly peed my pants), I dialed 911 for the first time in my life, and have I witnessed first hand the long-lasting effects of the Canadian residential school system. Moving here from my little picturesque town has been quite the culture shock. My mother is constantly worried. But hey, if I can survive here, anywhere else in the country will be a piece of cake Smile

The University is actually really nice though. Small classes where I can chat 1-to-1 with my professors makes me feel really comfortable. I am taking the women's studies program and I am really loving it.

You know, last year Thunder Bay was the city suffering from devastating flooding - but that didn't make the headlining National news Razz

OMG! I had no idea Thunder Bay was like that. Well, you'll be a tough cookie! Please stay safe Smile

It's funny how news can be so skewed at times.

Your school sounds quite nice - it's awful being one of 200 students in a class and your instructor has no clue as to who you are (my school isn't like that, but some first year U of C courses sure were).

Is the forum as busy as it was a while back? It seems a little quiet, but that could be due to summer holidays...

I didn't know it was like that either until I moved here Razz

I like that all the profs know who I am. I had some classes with a couple hundred students, but those were mostly the first year intro classes.

The forum has been pretty dead lately. We're trying to bring it back to life!
