| I thought I'd move my discussion to this section rather than continuing on in the health section. Today I think I had a breakthrough!! Little Bentley stepped up for me without much panic and after sitting with me for a bit while I sang and talked to him, he let me kiss his belly without leaning back in horror! Yay! I had another session with him after dinner and he seemed just as relaxed as he was this morning. Headway is being made. Makes me feel a lot better to see some sort of progress... I forgot to make a vet appointment today but I'll try to get in this week to get his foot looked at. | |

| I have been working with Arthur for over a year and just recently started making significant progress. Granted Arthur has a lot more "issues" than your little one, but you never really know what you are going to get. Breeder birds are truly the way to go. Rescues are a lot more work.
The best advice I can give is some hard advice I had to take myself: be patient.
Only work as much or as fast as your bird wants to, not how fast you want to go. If he is not ready, pushing at all won't work. It has to go at his pace. It wasn't until I gave in and decided to take whatever Arthur would give that he really started to make progress.
One other thing you could try is to interact with Sputnik often, outside the new bird's cage. Be very excited when Sputnik does things you want him to, and give lots of treats, and let the new bird see you give treats. It may take a while but he will figure it out. | |

| Honestly, my parakeet has never been a "people bird." She is much happier in the company of another bird and I don't force the issue. She is not terrified of me by any means, but she doesn't seem to particularly like me, either. It's sometimes just what you get. | |

| Thanks Roger - you have good advice and I think I'll try what you said about working with Sputnik outside of Bentley's cage. | |

| Whenever I see a baby budgie with the bars still on it's forehead I just feel like crying out of cuteness. It's right up there with baby feet and kitten mews. | |
