Quoting Help Empty
PostSubject: Quoting Help   Quoting Help EmptySun Jun 19, 2011 6:26 pm

Hey all, I went through the FAQ's and have tried to figure it out on my own with no luck so far (I swear it's the forum newbie thing), but I can't figure out how to quote another post in my posts for reference purposes scratch . I know the rest of you all know how, even the Capt (who says he can't figure out computers), so I'm feeling rather stupid to ask Duh as I am sure it very simple. But hey, if you don't ask you never find out, so there it is.

Thanks in advance for the tutorial!

Hey Roger, i think the easy way is to ,hit quote button on post you want to quote and it will show up on your reply where you can highlight and delete any part ypu don't want.

Roger, you first push the button "Quote"in a person post you want to be quoted and then reply open by itself. Try it!
If you want to use function: "Multi-Quote", then you push the button "Multi-Quote" on every person you want to quote on that topic and then you push button: "Post-Replay".
If you want to quote only single sentence from whole post, you push the "Quote" button and then you simple cut rest of the post and leave only the one you're interested to quote. I usually put this (...) in a place when it was another sentences, just to let know, that I cut somebody's quote, but this is not necessary i.e:

You're welcome! I just hope that I wrote it the understandable language.

Rodger, in the post you want to quote, there's a blue button near the topic line that says "quote". Click the button to quote the entire post.

You're not stupid, Roger! I swear, I am incredibly dense some days to the point where I can't even figure out how to open freezers with sliding doors in stores.

Like Capt Henpecked, Margaret, and Kaela said, there's a blue "Quote" button to the top right of a post. Click on that and you will be brought to the Post Reply page with the post you quoted typed into the reply box.

Multi-Quote (the blue button next to Quote) is for if there are two or more posts you want to quote on a thread. You click on the Multi-Quote button to make it change color, then go down the thread and click Multi-Quote on all the posts you want to quote. Once you have selected all the posts you want to Multi-Quote, click Post Reply at the bottom of the page and it will bring you to the reply screen with all the posts quoted for you.

You can tell what you have quoted because the text will have Quote="Username Here" in brackets [ ] in the beginning of it and /Quote in brackets at the end.

The text you quoted can be altered however you like; meaning if you only want to quote a segment you can just select the text you don't want and hit delete or backspace normally. Whatever you want to have be your original text, type outside of the bracketed quote area - meaning before [ Quote="Username Here " ] or after [ / Quote ].

If you want to split a post up so you can address each part individually, highlight [ Quote="Username Here " ] and copy and paste it before each part you want to put in its own quote, and then repeat the copy and pasting with [ / Quote ] that appears at the end of the text at the end of each part you want to quote.

This is what I mean:

Embarassed Smile Thanks! Pictures are almost always harder to misunderstand than even very well-written, detailed descriptions. About half the time I get myself all lost and confused reading walkthroughs, so I figured make something for anyone who's like me.

You're welcome! Smile
All you needed was the [ / quote ] at the end - you must have accidentally deleted it when you edited down to the part you wanted.

...hm... and now I'm not sure how to fix that^ so it says you said it and not me. Razz
