| Soo...I didn't use to like birds. They were just 'there', background noise. But after some experiences through school I grew to love them.
And so! When my brother began dating this girl with a number of parrots, it wasn't hard at all to make the transition from wild birds, to parrots.
Anywho, there is a long back story. But to make it short....My new sister-in-law (bird girl) learned that her crazy neighbours had a parrot again. These people have a history of collecting kids, and pets. The pets don't last long at all. They previously had a Rainbow Lori, and killed it because it wouldn't eat. They killed a puppy in a week (don't ask me how). She learned that this new parrot wasn't any different, the lady wanted to get rid of it because she had discovered that one of her many kids was allergic to birds (how they didn't know this after the lori, don't ask me).
Anyway, My sister-in-law paid them a visit, and found that the bird was a Green-cheeked Conure, and he was living in a reasonably sized cage in their kitchen. With one too-small perch. No toys. And budgie sized pellets for food (sand grain sized). As the cage was on a stand on wheels, the kids would grab it and drive it around the house like it was a race car, with the bird clinging to the side.
The owner was a pain in getting a hold of. As she didn't return phone calls, and we didn't want to scare her off either. But a few weeks past with no word from her. We were afraid the bird had died. The next time we got news of the bird, we learned that the GCC was being kept in the garage to keep her kid from suffering from allergies. The garage was unheated. We were in the midst of a Canadian Winter.
Lo and behold! The bird survived. Randomly one day while I was at work, I got a phone call from my sister-in-law telling me there was a surprise in my bedroom. I got home....there was Jack! They ended up getting him, and his cage off the woman for $50. He was my Christmas present for the year. That was three years ago. Supposedly he was 5 months old when I got him. So we have many more years to go!

His name when I got him, was Xiani or something weird like that. I can't remember exactly, other than it started with an X.

| I read that story couple of times and now I know that Jack is a rescue bird. I have to say, that all the time I saw before: "Captain Jack Parrot: Green-cheeked Conure" I simply assumed, that your bird is from Hennpecked(CaptWest from elsewhere having Jakie bird). I even wondered before, since when Richard breed conures... I can't even blame my ESL | |

| Hehe! Nope. Jack isn't from any kind of store or breeder. Originally, ya. I wouldn't be surprised if his previous owners picked him up from a random crappy pet store. But thats not where I got him.
Considering what hes been through (his previous owners incompetence), my learning-on-the-go, as well as my random moving back and forth from school with him in the passenger seat, and my rotation schedule...hes a surprisingly well balanced bird!
