| GSD or livestock guardian type breeds. Anything that's pushing 100 pounds or multiple "smaller" dogs. My 3 (now 4 - puppy in training) gang up on coyotes. Also my local sheriff did say shoot a coyote and leave it's carcass on the property for as long as you can stand the smell. The other coyotes smell the death and steer clear of your property for awhile. | |

| Amstaff When my father moved to village from the city, they bought the Amstaff girl. She was trained to be friendly to a people, and she is. But all the forest animals, snakes and even birds finish dead very fast. They was living practically in the forest. My father's wife still have a dog. The only problem they had with her, she was very friendly to another people, but mean like a hell to another animals(including dogs). | |

| pyrenees dog...sometimes called great pyrenees. They're the largest in the working class of dogs.
They're really good with chicken coops and I don't see why they wouldn't be good with an aviary. Very territory centered and they will keep to their boundaries.

I highly agree and as well they are good with family members however I am not sure they can take the heat...this will not be an inside dog

| I would definitely suggest a dog from the herding group. Perhaps a Shepherd of some sort? | |

They're nocturnal by nature so great for guarding during the times coyotes would be around. Get one and shave it? LOL

| It gets over 100 degrees where I am. Mud wallows and shaved bellies for my dogs w/ long(er) coats. I do notice my cattle dog mix does not seem to suffer from the heat as much as the other dogs. Maybe an australian cattle dog/cattle dog mix? They're known to be good protective rural dogs. | |

| Rotties can be awesome dogs. I don't know if they are good with varmints, but they are very trainable and not as overbred as some of the others. | |

| Do you know how to temperament test for the qualities you want? I've had better success w/ pound puppies with assessing individual qualities instead of looking for specific breeds. | |

| i live in the country and have 2 shepherds...nothing but nothing lives if it comes on the property...but they are friendly with people and would carry out stolen goods for them...lol
i have had 2 pyranees that were great but if you live near a road, they don't move for anything...thus the shepherds now..

Apparently they can! | |

| Also, every ACD I have met stood out for me. They all pretty much ignored my presence and focused on their thing, hahah. | |

| ACD's I've met seem not afraid to bite people out of territoriality. They're "shifty" to me. They don't seem to be outright in your face aggressive like a shep, rot or other "aggressive/protective" breed. ACDs bark from a distance, circle and then jump in for cheap shots. Maybe that's the herding dog in them.
My 3 dogs are not very human aggressive. But they circle strangers and bark which is pretty F*ing intimidating if you don't know they're harmless. My shep x has a vendetta against coyotes. He's very dog friendly. I think he tried to play with the coyotes when we first moved out here and they kicked his butt. He's too big for them to hurt, but I think they weren't very nice to him.

| I feel bad for herding dogs at dog park. They don't play "normal" and they seem to just annoy other dogs with their herding, barking and nipping.
It's funny to watch, but the other dogs get really annoyed.

| When me and my step father were looking for cattle, one of the farms had about 7 dogs. One of them was an ACD. She was timid at first, but after a while she warmed up to me. She was a complete suck, but I could tell she was intelligent.
When we were in the field, she started herding the cattle. Those dogs are FEISTY.
They are one of my favorite breeds. Also, they are the healthiest, and live longer than any other breed.

| We have an Australian Shepherd. When the kids were little she used to herd the kids when they ran around in the yard, and tried to herd the cats in the house, until she gave up (You ever try to herd cats?). | |

Did your cats pound the dog? My cats would pound my dogs if they did that.
