iPhone App to measure DB SPL

I discovered two apps called, "Decibel Ultra" and "Decibels" on the Apple app store, both of which are free and available to Apple customers.

When I go home, I'm gonna measure exactly how loud my birds are for self reference. If any of you are interested, you can download it too!

If we want to compare numbers there will have to be a set distance. Does the app specify what it's calibrated for?

OK, I think what it is doing is measuring the noise level at the location of the iPhone. So you'll need a standard distance from the bird to get comparable measurement. It'll be different at 6" than across the room. Wonder if the app exists for Android. I'm Apple all the way except my phone.

There is one for Android ( which is what I use) called deciBel. Its free as well.

Just turned on my decibel meter while Sebastian was screaming.... 140.5... LOUD! I was standing about 5 ft from his cage.

I'm gonna try to scream as hard as I can and reach 145.

this makes me want an iphone or the equivalent now. I'd be very interested in people's results, 140 is crazy!! listening to macaws belt it out always reminds me why I don't really want one in my home
