| I can't stand them, they are too smooth for birdie feet. I don't even like holding it in my hand because it's slippery; I can why these stress bird feet and cause cramping and joint problems in the long run..
Right now, I am not using a single dowel, I bought mostly natural perches with bark. I think it's okay to have one or two in the cage but it irks me tremendously when I see cages with mostly or completely dowels.

| Hehehe, the zons shred them to tooth picks in about an hour and the flock of teils can make a 4 foot long one disappear in a couple of days. | |

good idea! I have one dowel perch I use from time to time that I drilled holes and indentations in. I hide seeds in the hole for rainbow to get so that sometimes she has to chew the dowel up in that spot to get to the food. the upside to dowels is that they're easy to customise, I have some more ideas I need to play around with...

That's a good idea! Make the perches interesting for the birds.

| I haven't used a wooden dowel for any of my birds ever, I can't stand them. I have to stop myself from sending e-mails to ads on Kijiji whenever I see someone selling their birds or cages and they are full of dowels. | |

| Each of my cages has one in there. I hang toys and wrap stuff around them for the fids to destroy. |
