| I did it! With the gentle prodding of some of you here, I researched avenues for writing about birds and hopefully earning some kind of income in doing so and I found a keeper! It was a few day process, but I applied for a reporter position for the Examiner.com, which is a national news source and last night, I was accepted as their Northern NJ bird expert! Salary is totally based on readership volume and popularity of issues based on my expertise (I am now titled as “Newark Bird Reporter”) so I will welcome topic ideas from everyone here. I want to use this to good ends, to discuss important topics and issues that are ignored or avoided… become a proponent of proper bird ownership. My first article will be about the plight of the surrendered birds… how people have no idea what they are getting themselves into when they buy a bird without knowing what the repercussions and responsibilities are.My page is at http://www.examiner.com/bird-in-newark/vikki-jankowskiI don’t have anything submitted yet, but hope to soon. Will keep you all posted and thanks again for the support!! | |

| I love your article!
"A universal adage among the avian crowd is that a parrot is a perpetual two year old with ADD and an unending sugar high. That’s putting it mildly." Ducky was just doing "laps" around my shoulders and head this morning.
"All birds are very quick when they attack, but a larger bird is much easier to capture and restrain." Providing your bare hand as something for them to focus on and maim makes it easier to capture and restrain them. You, yourself, learn basic medical first-aid on humans as an added bonus.
"Smaller birds are like evil, feathered ninjas." Oh yeah! I show people the crescent shaped scars on my hands and tell them I've never been bitten by anything larger than an eclectus. Most people's eyes bug out.

| That is so amazingly exciting! Your article was brilliant! I loved the "evil ninja" comment, especially how they laugh as they give you a fly-by bite! LOL! Genius!
I'm inspired to apply there myself! How does, "Aurora Personal Safety Examiner" sound?

| Thank you all! Glad you liked my first article. I have so many ideas in my head for my next articles, I have to sit down and plan them out otherwise they'll come out like a clump of fifteen articles in one that make no sense. LOL If there is something you'd want me to write about, let me know and I'll add it to the list. And Vicki#, I think that sounds great! And if you do feel like you want to write for them, let me know. I can give you my writer code so I get a referral credit. And Pat... yes, though I've worked as an EMT decades ago, there are many wounds I've had to tend over the years. I generally leave the stitches to the critical clinic though. | |

| Very tactfully done. Maybe a follow up article indicating recall training is an absolute must if owners are going to keep them flighted. | |
