| We are using the short leash yet, she cant get more than a foot off the ground unless we run with her haha(: Today was another adventure! We walked into town with Zada and Darla. It was a little cloudy but still warm. We walked to Patrick's favorite coffee shop but it was closed! So we walked to Subway. The owner was there and he let us bring Zada and Darla inside, thank goodness! I got some veggies and gave them to Zada. The owner asked a ton of questions about her. I tried to tell him everything I knew haha. He asked how much andI just said "It depends, but it cost more to take care of them." Which is the answer I usually give. I gave him the breeders number so he could ask her some stuff. Anyway he was very nice. I noticed that whenever I take Zada anywhere its always the same questions, "Does she talk," and "how much did you pay for her?" -_____- And a lot of people here tell me they have never seen a macaw in person, people take pictures of us a lot of the time haha. Like when we went to the park some girls, probably around my age asked us questions about her and we probably sat there for 45 mins. I like being able to share what information I have haha. Zada's the new town celebrity (; Heres some pictures from today: All soaked, it started to rain on the way home! | |

| Get used to the celebrity. Bryan consistently takes Merlyn to car shows and swap meets and when we do, we're usually inundated with people asking questions and wanting to take pictures with us. WE have an in at the renn faire in NY (the bird show people are friends of ours) so we tend to show up there in full medieval regalia with one bird or another and can barely get two feet before we get stopped for pictures, especially when we're in our pirate gear. | |

| My favorite is when people ask "Does he bite" AFTER they poke their fingers at his beak. Most times I don't have to answer. LOL | |

People ask me that too! And if they look sketchy I say yes. But I let nice, calm strangers hold her or give her a treat haha.

What thoughts?? (: Mainly the poo! haha Seriously though, the longer I work at the store, the more convinced I am that I'm not a "big bird" person. It's not that I dislike them, because I don't, I'm actually beginning to be quite fond of a couple. I'm really quite proud of the fact that I'm getting more comfortable around them and their huge beaks! I just really enjoy the smaller birds more - specifically the conures. I can't tell you what it is exactly that I like about the conures that the other birds don't have... they just have a certain je ne sais quoi that pulls me in every time. Every once in a while I'll meet another bird that has it too (Sam, for example), but as a group I'd have to say that for me, the conures have it. - hannahbird wrote:

For Christmas, I'm making my son an outfit to wear to Renn Fest this year. He goes every year with his bio-mom, but the only year he ever got to dress up was the one year his dad and I took him and rented him a costume. I decided he's old enough that I can make him one that will "grow with him" for a couple of years.... and he'll LOVE it... I hope! LOL! - GlassOnion wrote:

It does get kind of old, but I just try to remember that a) It's not the same person asking over and over, and b) I'm an ambassador for everyone who keeps parrots. My answer for the $$ question varies depending on the conversation I'm having with the person. If they're asking intelligent questions about the bird, care, etc., and the $$ comes towards the end, I'll give them an actual range. ("Depending on where you buy them (breeder, pet store, etc), they can be found anywhere from ____ to ____.") If they're just being nosy, I'll tell them that parrots can be found for a range of prices, from a $15 "parakeet" at the pet store all the way up to the cost of a small car, and that the best way to decide what bird is the one for you is not based on price but on the characteristics one is looking for in a companion. If they're pushy and persist in asking what I paid for my bird, I smile and say, "Let's just say she's priceless." That shuts them up. I'm really trying to remember that the Ohio tiger release case could potentially have an impact on everyone who owns parrots. People tend to forget that parrots are actually exotic animals and if they're not specifically excluded from any new laws it could become very problematic for us.
