OHHH! I CAN'T STAND IT ANYMORE!

Congratulations!!!

Now that I've made the announcement, I can continue on about the reality.

I don't know who remembers anything about Sam, but he's a Blue Front Amazon who lives at the store.

He's a beautiful bird but mean as all get-out. He seems to hate the world. He's been in a small-ish boarding cage for quite some time because he doesn't get along with the other birds and so can't be in the large flight for any length of time. He's been in there for a couple of weeks because of the holidays and the need for extra boarding cages, but he picks on the smaller birds and the bigger birds pick on him because he doesn't know how to be "normal." Moreover, whenever anyone gets into the flight to clean it or try to get a bird out to show they're in danger of Sam.

But I love Sam.

I don't think he actually loves me, but he'll hold onto the cage bar and let me scratch his beak sometimes and I can talk to him.

I won't be able to leave him out of his cage all day like I do Allie and Caesar, but maybe he'll be able to have *some* out of cage time... maybe... eventually. And he'll have his own cage, in his own little bird room where I can see him and talk to him and scratch his beak every single day.

So he'll kind-of be a pet in a not very pet-like kind-of way. He'll be my Sam whom I love and that's all that really matters.

That is great news Vicki, I am happy for you and Sam. I did notice the change in color for your name yesterday (wondering why it was red and not green), but given the glitch with the Poicephalus group, I thought it might be a mistake. Happy to find out it was correct!

I'll probably change it back to green before too long. I really am a conure person... the red was just my way of trying to make an announcement without actually making an announcement! LOL!

yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay I love love love BFAs! so very pretty and if they love you they're as sweet as pie. Of course the one I know does not love me but she's a complete doll with the people she deems worthy to hold her. Enjoy your sam

I certainly hope to not need them, but recently I've needed them more with the 'tiels at work than anything else. They've got beaks like little fish-hooks! I'm so glad my little Cookie will be coming from Josie! She only bakes SWEET 'tiels!
I can hardly wait for him/her too!!!!

EDIT: Though if I get a him, he may not be named Cookie... I may have to change it to Muffin or something else sweet and edible!

Congrats! When I'm significantly older, and have a career and home, I would love to adopt an older rescue bird.

Congratulations with both. I still remember day, when I brought Lucky with me. Even, he is not such sweet to me as to my bf, I love him. I love watching Lucky and my bf going nuts together. BFAs are so cute!

Vicki, that's so many birds you're adding so quickly. What if flock dynamics don't work out again? Are you going to rehome again? The add/rehome cycle is very dangerous and unfair to the birds involved. May I suggest that you wait out some time (at least after Allie hits maturity) before adding a Cockatiel?

I really REALLY appreciate your concern! And believe me, it's one I've given a lot of thought to - mainly because it's one I have as well. As a result, I've talked with several people at length about my plans.

Sam will be a big budgie. A bird I love, one I sit, talk to, enjoy, etc, but he's not able to be a pet. By necessity he'll live in the bird room with the, er.. birds.

Cookie on the other hand, isn't even a gleam in her mother's eye yet. S/he and her siblings still have to be conceived, brooded and weaned before I even get to think about choosing a bird. It will be at least a couple of months before s/he is added to the flock, and during that time Allie will continue to mature - as will our bond.

Speaking of Allie, she is coming along very nicely. She's been spending lots of time at the store with me interacting and socializing with birds there, socializing with the rather large flock here at the house and interacting with Caesar. Our bond has grown far faster as a result of these experiences than it might have otherwise, and she's most certainly a different bird than she was even one month ago.

I have no doubt the additions I'm making are right. If I did I wouldn't be making them, especially after the experiences I've had previously.

Cookie's an adorable name. I vote Reese for second choice.
