| okay so i already posted about mikkos butt and a few people on another forum are trying to tell me i should get a second oppinion. not really sure why. we've gone to the same vet for over 10 years. shes a certafied avian vet but she also treats pretty much any other animal you can think of. shes already saved mikkos life once so i know mikkos in good hands, but im curious what you guys think about this because i trust you guys more than people on avian avenue. i think they wanted a second opinion about the regurgitation but i only saw that twice after she had her meds so my vet said she was probably regurgitating because of the yeast infection and ive looked at multiple websites and it says that regurgitation is a symptom of a yeast infection. so whats your guys thoughts about getting another opinion? | |

| You said you saw it twice, after you gave her her medicine. How long after you gave her the medicine? How long has it been since she regurged? Is she showing any symptoms at all any more? Did you take droppings back in for the repeat gram stain? When will you have those results?
I know that's a lot of questions, but they're all kind-of important. I tend to be a bit conservative in my vetting. If she's not showing symptoms anymore and you trust the vet you're going to now, then I don't see any reason to take her for another opinion... but that's just my opinion. Like Capt said though, a second opinion never hurts (anything but your wallet).

| Personally I wouldn't bother with a second opinion. If she hasn't regurged in four days and seems to be doing better, it doesn't seem to be worth the trouble. But again, that's just me. Sometimes you just have to depend on your instincts with your babies though. People on internet forums aren't there in the room with you. You know the behaviors of your fids better than anyone... If you feel like things are OK, I'd go with it. If you feel like things are "off," then I'd head to as many vets as it takes to find out what's wrong. (This is good practice for parenthood! LOL!)

| If you trust your vet, it's probably not necessary to get a second opinion IMO. It sounds as if other forum members are second-guessing your vet, but you have to remember that they only have a tiny piece of the picture and you have a much bigger one. | |

| My CAG used to regurge for me almost every day. If it's while she's calm and near you and especially if she's making a soft urkk, urk, urk sound or her wings are relaxed and held slightly away from her body, she's regurging cause she loves you. My current CAG that a friend gave me regurged out of affection to me within a few hours of meeting him.
If she's throwing up, that's another story. Throwing up is not normal and not regurging.

| That's a good point, we tend to use the term "regurgitation" to mean vomiting in people, but they are different things. Regurgitation is more or less voluntary and behavioral, vomiting is "throwing up" and is more or less involuntary and due to disease. I assumed Coral really meant "vomiting", but it's better to be precise. | |

| I don't think that second opinion is necessary. The only one thing I know, that unfortunately east infections like to come back. So my suggestion it would be taking the poo to test again. Ask your vet what to do to minimize risk of yeast inf. in the future. Good luck! | |

| Honestly, after my experience with Piper, I wouldn't trust any regurgitation. However, if you're comfortable with your vet, I'd say trust them. | |

| That's regurge and its normal and they do it mostly as a sign of affection and trust for you. Vomiting is just that and you will know the difference. Basically they will open wide, bend over and liquid will pour out. Sounds gross, but that's the long and short of it. Vomiting in birds is much more dramatic than their regurge. Also, if your bird is "sick", their mood will change drastically. They tend to quiet themselves, sit on the bottom or corner of their cage and kind of hunker down. If he's regurging and then playing the next minute, its affection. If you note a mood change, call the vet. | |

| If you're worried about a mild yeast infection (very mild) you can put a drop of apple cider vinegar in the water or a drop of grapefruit seed extract. Not really for a "sick" bird, more so an overall health booster like humans taking Vit C or echinacea when you're feeling a little under the weather but not full blown sick. | A little apple cider vinegar is palatable, and the slight acidulation of the water will help keep down growth of nasties in the water. I'm not sold on the other claims. I tried it for a while, but Scotty bathes exclusively in his water dish and I'm not overly fond of acetic-acid perfumed birds.... | |

| That's one of the advantages to the cage catchers, the waxed surface keeps the texture more intact. I usually take the current sheet, fold it carfully and put it in a ziploc bag when we go to the vet. | |
