Kaela, sorry about the lovebirds. Is she really epileptic? Or was it a fluke?

As we can find no cause for the seizures, and they've occurred frequently over the past couple of days, the specialist has concluded that he's likely epileptic. It's fun times, let me tell you.

There has been a lot of singing back and forth. I can't wait to see how they interact with each other.
I have a question for everyone. Charlie came from a home where he was the only bird. He hasn't been around birds as far as I know, for many, many years. Is a quarantine really as important? His cage is right by the bird room. Because of it's size, I can't get it into the bathroom, or even the other side of the apartment.

Rescues from a hoarding situation in Maryland. They were taken from a home and moved to a rescue. I picked them up two weeks ago.
If he hasn't been around other birds, I'd say quarantine really isn't important.

He is too cute.
Years ago I had a mostly yellow Tiel and her nostrils were enlarged too. Could the genes have anything to do with the nostrils??
I would think that quarantine would be unnecessary too.
Let us know how the first meeting goes.

i haven't seen the nostril thing in tiels, maybe #'s or roz could shed some light. Genetics could be possible but most would breed that out. i'd like to know what you discover about that.

Things are going so well with Charlie! He is such a sweet heart. For a bird that was never let out of his cage, he sure does love being out!
He steps up pretty well. Like really well. He gets all excited when I open the cage door and practically jumps on my hand. He's very much a shoulder bird and loves being around me.
When I leave the room, he calls out for me. And when I have him outside of his cage, and have left the room, he has flown to me. I think this is pretty big. He hasn't had the chance to fly in years.
As I type this he is preening my face, the first time he's done this. As for me preening him, he's a little cautious. I think he has a fear of fingers. But he'll rub his face on me, trying to get my nose to preen him.

His behaviors sound a lot like Blanco's. I wonder if he came from a similar kind of background. He really wanted to be with us and on the shoulder, but not keen on the hands. Sounds like he's doing great!

The same with Mickey- our second 'tiel. She loves attention, loves to be around birds and us, but no touching, please!

Some more updates on Charlie!
He just keeps doing better and better!
I have his cage right now pushed up to my bed. And whenever I lay down or go to sleep, he goes to the lowest perch and presses himself up against me - it's adorable!
He also gets jealous. I had a friend over, and I could see him freaking out about me not paying attention to him.
He is also VERY clean. I can't believe how clean he is. I'm so used to my birds throwing food all over the place, like onto the floor, in the water, and spilled onto the cage floor. But Charlie, he eats what he has, and doesn't throw the husks everywhere! He is also a very gentle player, preening and just nibbling at his toys. I wish the rest of the birds had manners like Charlie
He is getting more and more comfortable with hands. I have managed to preen him several times with my fingers, and he seems to really enjoy it.

Aww, Charlie sounds like an absolute sweetie! So glad it turned out so well for the both of you! I'm jealous of his being clean; the area around my boys' cage is a disaster zone, haha.
Do Charlie and Einstein get along well? Or do they both get jealous and compete for your attention?

I'm amazed sometimes at how someone couldn't love an animal who really only wants love and attention.
So happy Charlie has settled into your flock so well You're an amazing girl, Zaza!

It's one clean bird out of 5, everyone else are complete piggies

Thanks! He's such a little sweetie. Always demanding attention. He has started tapping on the cage bars, making a loud noise to get my attention when I leave the room.
I have let hm and the other birds meet. His cage is still next to my bed, and not in the bird room, because I want him to bond really well to me.
The budgies are very curious of him. Bonnie, being the queen of the roost, is the most curious. She flies over and just stares at him and follows him around. No aggression.
Einstein and Charlie are kind of funny together. The first time they met, they started whistling very loudly at each other. They seem to be very jealous of each other. Both of them demand my attention. I've spent a lot of hours giving scritches to both of them at the same time. No more free hands for me!
They aren't friends (yet...I hope) but they aren't by any means enemies. They seem to tolerate each other They don't seem to like sitting next to each other too closely on the same perch or shoulder. They have shared millet together, and do sing to each other when they are far away. I'd really like to see them become closer, but I've only just started so I never know!

That sounds like my 'tiels. They're not BFFs but they'll tolerate each other. Occasionally they'll even preen each other, but usually when they preen each other it ends with them having a little spat and standing several inches away from each other on the same perch preening themselves

Boy o boy Charlie is cute! Similar things with my Chico and Mickey: they are no friends, but no enemies either. When they sit in one perch and start hiss at each other it's so funny to watch, knowing they never bite each other They are jealous and when one comes to me, another one have to be close in a moment. And they don't preen each other. As crazy as it sounds Lucky and Chico are preening each other, but that's a different story!
Keep us posted Zaza!

Update time!
Charlie is just doing so fantastic. He looks so much younger and healthier since he's moved in. He came in covered in pin feathers with his feathers all rustled, but now he looks like a young bird again. He's so energetic, and he plays all day.
He is always singing to me - not as good as Einstein, but still pretty good.
I haven't moved him into the bird room yet for selfish reasons. With his cage right up to my bed, he gets as close to me as possible in his cage as he sleeps. I even wake up with a happy little tiel watching and waiting for me.
He is also a FANTASTIC eater. I thought my guys were good, but he's just amazing. He eats ANYTHING I give him. And he doesn't just try it, he engulfs it! I recently bought him some banana bird muffins, and he can eat the entire thing in about an hour.
