| ..for a Conure or a Red bellied poi! I *think* I'm gonna rule out the Aratingas Roz, because of the noise factor. Now, I personally don't mind, but my fiance might, my landlord(s) might, my neighbours might, etc etc. I also think I'm gonna rule out Quakers Julsiebean, because of the noise factor as well.. So, I'm now aching for a Crimson Bellied or a Red bellied. Itch Itch Itch Itch Itch | |

No! Aries is NOT a freak of nature! I'm sitting 5 feet away from Ducky and two 10 week old suns and there's not a peep out of them. I lived in an apartment with my jenday for a year. No complaints. I'll egg you into getting one yet, GlassOnion! Just kiddin'. You get whatever you're comfortable with.

| Suns are just...suns. LOL If it makes you feel any better, I live in an apartment and my husband was not a bird person when we first started dating, heck until Aries came to our home he was still a bit beak shy. They don't scream all day long and if they do scream it's usually for a good reason (in their minds) I'd let you come hang out if you were closer. You'd see, it's not all that bad. | |

| Seriously - go play with as many different individuals as you can of the species you're considering. Play with mature adult ones too. You'll get a better idea of what they're like. Reading descriptions and getting an idea in your mind sometimes is a lot different than reality. | |

| Not to try to influence (ok, maybe just a tad)
Suns are loud, I'm not saying they're not. They're just not loud all day. Many of the suns that are loud all day have issues that aren't getting taken care of. My grandparents would tell you that Aries doesn't shut up, but he's sitting in his cage for "nap time" right now not even making a sound. Can they be loud all day? Sure, in the environment that promotes that. Can they be quiet all day? Sure, in the environment that promotes it. For the most part, Aries grumbles, mumbles, clicks and makes kissy noises. He called 3 times last night for my husband. Didn't last long at all and wasn't as loud as I've heard him before. If we've been gone all day...he'll call when we walk in the door. At sundown he MIGHT call once.
Go play with adults and babies, really spend a bunch of time with them. People don't know I have a bird until I tell them most times.

| I really wish there were more places around me, where I could gain some hands on experience. Unfortunately, almost every bird I've met has shown abnormal qualities, probably due to lack of attention and care at the shops.. | |

| Maybe just spend an hour or so just next to the bird. Talk to it for a while. This could make quite a difference. If it knows you're specifically spending time with it. Wish you could come play with Aries. I will also say that birds can be rehabbed | |

| I really think that rehabbing a bird and watching it show its true colors, is an amazingly satisfying experience. When I got Apple, he was a NO TOUCH bird, but with enough 'tough love' I can now fondle with him pretty well. I want to meet Aries too! | |

| I read that first line as a Conure Bellied Poi...then I got rather confused. Then I realized you meant either the Conure or Red Bellied. I LOVE pois personalities and little sounds If Rosco hadn't bullied his way into my heart, a Meyer's or Red Bellied parrot would of likely joined our flock instead. | |

| That's your Caique, right? I love Caiques but had to rule it out due to potential aggression issues towards my other birds. Pois really seem to be some fiiiiine creatures, but I get the impression they aren't as expressive as the Conures- and I like expressive personalities! | |

| Even though Suns and Jendays aren't loud all the time, that ONE scream they do is enough to put some over the edge. I can totally understand why at this point, maybe it isn't a good idea. My quaker can be a real loud ass too when she wants to be, but the sound is different and isn't nearly as *ZOMG MY BRAIN!!!*
As the proud new mama of a GCC, they are the best of both worlds in a conure. I adore conures, and the sounds don't bother me (they do my husband). The GCC allows me all that lovely conure glory without the call that makes my husband run for the hills.
My Quaker is very "big bird" minded. A lot of people say "Oh, it is a big bird in a little body!" About lots of little birds, but my Quaker really is. |

| There was another one on the same topic, a subspecies, that looked like a cross between a raven lorie and a rainbow billed toucan, it was both bizarre and beautiful, I have to find the picture.... | |
