Preening behavior? Empty
PostSubject: Preening behavior?   Preening behavior? EmptyTue May 31, 2011 10:06 pm

When JJ and Posei are in a cage together, I notice that in addition to the expected preening on the head and neck, I see them doing something that looks like pecking, nibbling, or even sometimes biting on each others feet. I've noticed that Bucky does it to his own feet a lot as well, but haven't noticed the other two giving that much attention to their own feet. What's up with that? Is this normal? Do birds preen each others feet? It seems odd to preen someone else's feet when it's something you could do yourself. Does anyone have any insight on this? thinking

No idea if it's "normal", but yeah, I see my birds grab each others feet with their beaks pretty often.

2 things, the feet of parrots are just another beak lots of info is digested by their feet, if others seem TOO interested in 1 birds feet here is the SIMPLE test take a piece of scotch tape press it on the birds foot and look at it under a magnifying glass (your vet will charge about $30 for this) any parasites (mites) will get stuck and then you have a direction to move in. If no bugs then it is play, and learning and skills come from play
