Looks kind of like a turquoisine parrot to me.

I'd like to think I'm bright but... is getting out "Parrots of the World" cheating?

I'm leaning towards Orange-bellied Parrot (Neophema chrysogaster)

I haven't looked at anybody else's posts (trying to figure it out on my own! (yeah RIGHT!)), but how big is it?

LOL- Me with my four months of bird experience trying to figure out mystery bird. What a laugh!

Anyway, I know this is NOT the right answer, but it looks kind of like a Princess Parrot, only with bright colors and a short tail.

I would say orange-bellied parrot, but the mystery birdie has orange on its chin as well, and I don't think orange-bellieds have that... But then again, I am no expert by any means...

Some great guesses and fantastic insight. To the question how big is the bird ... it is slightly smaller than a Princess Parrot. Oh and when one of you identifies it I am hoping that no one sends out some sort of Parrot Mafia Squad to do me in...

Princess parrot hybird.

Patbunny with Princess hybrid is the closest of all. Now which 2 species created the hybrid... (hoping no one is throwing rocks at me yet...)

At least it's a pretty hybrid. I saw a citron/rose breasted cockatoo hybrid last year. UGLY UGLY bird.

A couple of years ago believe it or not a Rose-breasted Cockatoo and her pal a Cockatiel produced one baby! Called a Galatiel. One fascinating looking bird. And no I am not making this one up! Okay back to our mystery bird...Princess Parrot is one parent... the princess was the Mom in this case. What was the Dad?

And wow, it really is a pretty bird. If I had more money and time, and less husband, that little beauty would be alllll mine!

Okay Vicki you are the winner! It is indeed a Princess/Scarlet-chested hyrbrid.

What happened was that due to shortage of space or something similar the owner put the two birds in together in an aviary as both were not breeding with their own kind at that time. The male Scarlet-chest fell for the beautiful blue Princess parrot female. The owner knew that the princess female spent time inside a vacant nesting box but didnt really pay any attention. Then this amazing looking chick appears one day as it fledges. Whats amazing is that these two birds come from different groups entirely. The princess from Polytelis and the scarlet-chest from the Neophema's. Amazing I think!

Believe it or not! here it is! The Galatiel. Mom was a cockatiel and Dad was a Rose-breasted Cockatoo or Galah. These are pics of him and then of his parents.

The Galatiel is one crazy looking bird, but oddly beautiful. He looks like my son got ahold of the 24 pack of Sharpies (Sharpies are colorful permanent markers, in case anyone isn't familiar), caught the bird, and ... let his creativity fly.

Actually, his colors remind me of Native American paintings and the colors of Arizona and the Southwest U.S. The more I look at him the more I find myself liking him.

Just curious, but is it known if cross-species hybrids are fertile? Or are they sterile like mules? I'm sorry for my ignorance, but I really have no idea. The thought of them being fertile and reproducing is both enthralling and troubling to me.

I want that bird.

I like both: Princess/Scarlet-chested hybrid and Galatiel. Both looks unique!

Vicki most parrot hybrids can produce offspring and though I wouldnt guarantee this is the case its more than likely that the little galatiel can mate with either a Galah or a Cockatiel and produce young. I remember seeing some place that they were offering him for sale at a pretty hefty price. I am not sure if the owners still have him.
