Well, we didn't quite finish the main bird building yet. John and Bryan have been working so hard all week to finish as much as they could, but some of the ceilings will have to go without drywall for a time and the mudding and painting will have to wait because come tomorrow night, the birds are being packed up, loaded onto a 26' truck and driven down to their new home. Awesome news! 4014162036

The awesome news?? Well, last month when we had our booth at the local fair I mentioned that we got tons of attention and everyone seemed very keen to welcoming us to town. I ran into a reporter for a large local paper who wanted to do a story about the rescue with pictures and all that to try to drum up business and volunteers for us. Well, over the month with all the activity, that story has now turned into a major project. Starting tomorrow, the paper is sending reporters out to the old rescue and they are going to follow the entire transition, interview all of us, take tons of pictures and do a multi-page spread story about our travels and adventures in moving the rescue to NJ. This is such a huge boon for us that it makes me cry. It will put us on the front page, literally and hopefully there will be a windfall of volunteers and sponsors come forth to give us the help we so desperately need.

Once the story comes out, I will put up links here so everyone can read and be a part of our transition.

That's great news! With the added exposure, hopefully there will be more people interested in adopting, volunteering and donating. And maybe the town the rescue is currently in will realize what an asset was lost.

The town we are leaving wouldn't care. Its a suburban, wealthy area and though I am sure its full of families who make donations to charities that are self-serving (the polo club, yachts R Us...) they cared little about the good we were doing and saw us more as a nuisances and a dirty, noise-making stain on their otherwise spic and span manicured street. We're happy to be gone, trust me. We are better off at the new place surrounded by simple, salt of the earth people who care about animals and respect our works.

I am really excited and nervous. Its a huge undertaking. I talked to Jeanne a while ago and she was at the new place helping Bryan and John to continue to drywall and tape. I know she was hoping to get out of there by 3 so she could get home to start organizing cages, carriers and food. As far as I am aware its just the 4 of us, but for the move itself I think too many people would cause confusion. Its just going to be a lot of work and a lot of hours.

In the long run, I think the artcle will drum up a lot of interest and if anything, may get some local bird people out of the closet so we can get some volunteers. And of course Kaylayah will be volunteering on weekends.... I'm kidnapping her on Saturdays and will lock her in the cockatoo room until they are properly asimilated. Awesome news! 496924589

I wish I lived close enough to volunteer. Actually, I wish I lived close enough to any animal sanctuary to volunteer.

That's not bad considering what you buy them for as babies.

And the fact that we'd spent months rehabilitating them, getting them proper vet care and feeding them quality foods... on our dime. That's really one of the only reasons we have fees, to help support the rescue as a whole. But you are right. We also work with adopters who can't afford the higher fees.

If I had $300 and money for a cage, I'd totally want to adopt a Goffin from you guys.

I have a bad habit of going to rescues or seeing a bird or cat in need and bringing it home. Especially if I fall in love with the bird. A rescue is probably no place for me, LOL.

Then that's your problem to deal with, not ours. Of course we'll be a tad concerned when you start showing up with duffel bags and back packs.

Having just transported a flock, I can say for sure it IS a media event. I am so happy that you have the public attention that ANY rescue deserves maybe some will learn the HUGE chore and cost of trying to rehab the gutter souls. My heart breaks everytime I see an ad that says cage for sale and OH BTW you can just HAVE the bird like it was a chewed perch or a piece of discarded food. Your gift of time and resources to our feathered friends is wonderful. I can't wait to see your post Awesome news! 3139819972 Awesome news! 3139819972 Awesome news! 3139819972 Awesome news! 3139819972
