Talking? Empty
PostSubject: Talking?   Talking? EmptyThu Aug 04, 2011 1:57 pm

My whole family thinks that Pete is trying to talk, sometimes when someone says something he'll also start chirping in the same "tone". This morning when I put him in his newer cage, he said something like "your a cutie". But you could just barely hear it. I'm not sure if he actually said it or if it was just him chirping. confused

When Scooter makes sounds that have the rhythm of human speech, I'll "parrot" back to him what I think it sounds like. He's developed several phrases that way that became clearer over time. You may find the same is true with Pete! Budgies are actually known to be better talkers than GCCs.

What SnS said is one of the best things to do. Budgies are the little-known talkers in the parrot family... If I'm not mistaken, a budgie is in the top three birds ever with the highest number of words in it's vocabulary - several thousand (10,000?). Don't quote me on that, it's been a really long time since I read that information, but my tired old memory is able to recall a number similar to that.

Really, Thats interesting that a smaller bird can remember that many phrases/words. I remember it was inbetween 100-10,000. Very Happy Somewhere in there.

When Einstein first started talking, I wasn't quite sure. I thought I was just making it up. But, after he did it for long enough, I could make out exactly what he's saying.

I have a feeling that little Pete is trying to talk. I'd loveeee a talking budgie. Their voices are absolutely ridiculous.

I never had a talking Budgie, but a lady that shopped at the store I managed brought hers in and it could say quite clearly "that's ridiculous birds can't talk" I thought it was too cool

Budgies in groups talk to each other, your Pete is one, so you and your family are his flock. Single male budgie has more chances to start talking, simply because he has no bird companion.
My budgies talk only their language, but Jan's Sputnik from this forum is quiet talkative- also single 'keet.

You're lucky to have Pete yahoo
