| The number 256,000,000 is wildly mislead in this "joke," especially as, as of last count in 2010, there were 235,809,266 individuals of voting age in the United States. I find it very hard to imagine that we somehow added an additional 20,190,734 individuals of voting age to our population. While the entire U.S. population is upwards of 303,000,000, individuals under the age of 18 don't count for political purposes.
That said, if we were taking into consideration the fact that, as of August 7, 2011, the Presidential approval rating, as published by the Rasmussen Presidential Poll, is 47% and the disapproval rating is 51%, the number of 256,000,000 shrinks even more wildly to 120,262,725.7 individuals that would conceivably be happy with a change in administration.
Just so you know. | |

I said volunteer, not necessarily a current supporter. It's still a question who I'll support come November 2012, but it most certainly will not be a Republican, Libertarian, Tea Partier, or Conservative Independant.

If there isn't a viable challenger or third party candidate, I probably will do some phone banking again this and next year. But to be honest, I'm incredibly irritated that someone who campaigned as a liberal Democrat has ended up being more moderate or, it could be argued, center right.

I don't regret my vote and support Obama as President, but I wouldn't be against voting for a third party candidate that fits my voting criteria. This would also depend on what the Republican party does and if it appears they'll be splitting their vote between the center right and a Tea Party candidate. Otherwise, I'll probably vote for Obama in 2012.

| I know it was a joke, but if Kaela hadn't gotten there first, I'd have said some of the same things. I think he' s a good man trying to do the right thing in an impossible situation. I think I don't have the heart to get into politics right now, but I think the small government, no revenue road some folks want us on is a road straight into disaster for the majority of the population. | |

| I've been a Democrat for many years and did vote Obama, and like s few others, feel that Obama is trying to do whats right and was just put into a quagmire with no way out (I often think that's why they chose him, knowing he would fail). Lately, I've become so disgusted by both parties that I just can't feel I would belong to either at this point so I consider myself an independent with a seriously non-conservative bent. I've lived in other countries long enough to know that a little bit of socialism goes a long way and I also know that the more power you give your government, the more power they will take away from you... and we've seen that.
I could go into politics but I won't, its a passionate topic for many and just something that not everyone can easily talk about peaceably...

| Quoting Lewis Black here:
"The Democratic Party is a party of no ideas, the Republican Party is a party of bad ideas....the only thing dumber than a Republican or a Democrat is when these two try to work together."
Speaking as an outsider, what I see from up here is that even if either party came up with the best idea ever, the other would find a way to hate it and tear it apart. With two parties this divided it would be impossible for anyone to get anything accomplished, no matter what party they are from. At least you guys get to vote for your President. We get the leader of whichever party wins the most seats, whether we like them or not.

True with politicians, and sadly, most of the time same with civilians who try to discuss politics, no matter how (un)educated they are. Opinions are like... well... we all know what opinions are like... "In the fevered state of our country, no good can ever result from any attempt to set one of these fiery zealots to rights, either in fact or principle. They are determined as to the facts they will believe, and the opinions on which they will act. Get by them, therefore, as you would by an angry bull; it is not for a man of sense to dispute the road with such an animal." ~Thomas Jefferson
