| You were my Rurr-rurr and my Arielito Gatito Kitty Pasta. We loved you very much and we miss you and we are sorry we couln't be there for you. You were special. I'm too broken up to write more right now. I was on course with Bill from 5 AM until 1 AM and got back to Furnace Creek at 2AM to get the news I knew was waiting but dreaded. This morning Bill had to drop a little outside Stovepipe Wells (at about 50 miles) because he became unable to keep anything down. We are now in Lone Pine recovering and exhausted and very sad. I feel I couldn't make things right for anyone, not Ariel, not Bill, not even myself. But tomorrow will be better. | |

| Thank you. I need ideas for something nice for my pet sitter and for the vet's office. The vets office was not only uncommonly kind, but they refused payment. | |

| Pain is personal and individual I wish you didn't have to feel it at all, there are no words to comfort your loss. | |

| Thank you all. We got a lovely card from the vet's office -- everybody wrote something and signed it. And the sitter just dropped by with a card and an orchid. The house has a hole in it, and Nikki is really missing him I think. Bill is already talking about adopting a young cat... I'm not sure I'm quite ready.

| That was very considerate of them.
I don't think getting another cat quite yet would be a good idea. You don't want to put a band-aid on your emotions. | |

| I don't think it is putting a bandaid on emotions. We KNOW we will get another cat, we'd already been thinking about it before we knew Ari was sick, the only question is timing. This is not the first time I've lost a beloved pet, this is the third in my adult life. A new friend does not in ANY way replace the lost friend, nor does a new pet in any way minimialize the loss or fail to show respect. In some ways it would be easier now, especially I think in terms of the two remaining cats going through fewer transitions in household order. I did a lot of my grieving out in the desert, I had hours and hours alone with my thoughts. | |
