Wish I'd had my camera with me yesterday afternoon! I decided to begin executing my plan to get the fids out of the house more, so I dragged the birds (in carriers) out onto the back porch with me for a while. It was just starting to get evening-ish and we have three hummngbird feeders spaced around the porch. One hummingbird came over to have a meal, but when he saw Scotty in his acrylic carrier, he stopped, dropped about two feet and stayed about two feet away from the carrier for the longest time, hovering and staring. Then he got the heck out of Dodge! Was pretty funny.
I'm not sure if the birds were happy or unhappy with the experience. They were for the most part uncharacteristically still and quiet, although I went inside once to grab the phone and they began normal contact calling.
Today I'm going to haul the cages out to clean, which means more outside time.

Don't trust the humming birds!!!! They will attack with their beak,i've seen one stuck in the screen wire trying to get at a parrot on the porch. We used to have a large border planted with Spider Lilies ,the hummers would stake claim to as many flowers as they could defend and defend them viciously ,often trying to stab their rivals.
too funny! I would have loved to see a video of that I've seen one of the little guys terrorize an owl because the hummingbird had a nest in the tree above him. gutsy little birds

My two eeks were on their platform, in a flash the took flight and scurried under the food cart growling away. I look up to see what scared the dickens out of them and there was a hummingbird hovering in the window. We never see them around here.

Yikes, that was almost scary! They were surprisingly cooperative about it, as you and the Cap'n pointed out, they are VERY territorial. We get to witness plenty of fights over the three feeders we have out, but NOTHING like that.

LOL! Scotty just watched the hum-bird and the hum-bird just watched him. Do wish I had video, maybe I should stage a rematch!
