| The store where I took our birds to be groomed does have baby birds and store pets in the store, but they test everything for known testable diseases and insist any boarders are tested. Their boarding room is on a separate circulation system. Is there possibly some risk of exposure? Yes, but I think it's fairly minimal. Everyone has to evaluate their own stomping ground and decide if the risk is worth the benefit of visiting those places. There's another store in town I wouldn't consider taking my birds to. OTOH, I possibly would take them into the Petsmart because the birds in there are in cages behind glass -- they are pretty isolated from the main airspace.
More diseases are spread by contact than airborne. With pigeons, it's more likely that you'd touch a surface they'd been on and then touch the bird or the carrier.
It's not that there isn't some risk, but there is risk in everything with these guys. I think it is good for everyone to think through what risks they are taking, but there are very few things that are black and white.

| Wow, you guys have some really good stores in the states. The ones around here, no one tests for anything. I don't even think the store managements KNOW that there is a risk of disease contamination in the bird areas. I agree that you can easily contract something with contact and I do try to be careful not to let Apple down on too many questionable surfaces. I'm just reminding that taking a pet parrot to an enclosed area of various other animals of unknown history, does pose notable risks. | |

| Well, sometimes baby birds are just baby birds. They're routine, boring, and nothing exciting happens. Other times you have MY baby bird! Lol! I'll give my biggest news first because I just can't wait! We got the DNA back and... IT'S A GIRL!!! So baby Allie it is!!! I KNEW it! So, over the weekend while I was working, I had a "bring your bird to work day." since she's been here with me she's lost weight so I've bumped her back up to 3 feedings/day to try and beef her up some. My super sweet hubby offered to feed her for me if I'd just tell him how, but I didn't think it wise to just give him a quick rundown on handfeeding my baby then just leave him to it, so off she went. She played in the playpen with the other babies, and at the end of the day she was WORN OUT! She wanted nothing more than to climb onto her perch and go to sleep! It was tooo cute! Oh, I had two people offer to buy her from me over the weekend. Sadly for them, I had to say no. Little Miss Priss gets so excited at feeding time she can hardly stand it. As a result of a mishap yesterday that had her flying into the sink and landing on the edge of a bowl of VERY hot water, she ended up scalding her wee little foot. (for anyone wondering, yes she's clipped). Her foot swelled up quite a bit but had all gone down by morning. As a result, Miss Allie Pants is getting strict lessons on staying perched when she's put on her perch. She's not liking it, but it's important for her safety. (The little twit!) Well, that's about it so far. If that's not enough, I'm afraid you'll have to go somewhere else for your entertainment, cause I don't think I can handle any more! | |

| for little miss Allie! Sorry about the foot mishap, Geez. And yeah, these little guys can fly pretty well when clipped. It's amazing how much diffrence there is among body types. | |

I know! I don't understand how they know it's so darn irresistible, but somehow they do and they capitalize on it every time, the little stink-bugs.

| I haven't updated Allie in a while, so I'll take a short minute and give one. She's doing great, as is to be expected. As it turns out, her favorite place in the house to hang out has ended up being in the bird room. She'll take off, climb the steps, scale the gate, then climb the cages in the room so she can be top bird in the whole house. If we can't find her where we expect her to be, we know we'll find her there. It took a while but the budgies are finally getting used to her climbing around the outside of their cages! I updated her and Caesars relationship in Caesars thread, so I won't go into it again here, but suffice it to say that it seems to have found its stable point. (I hope.) She loves bath time and is nowhere near as finikey as JJ used to be. Allie will bathe in a mud puddle if it's not too cold! Lol! The picture below is her usual bath time... It's blurry because there's no way to get her to be still! Haha! Harness training sucks. That's all I'll say cause I don't even want to talk about it. I know I need to spend more time on it, but I don't want to because it sucks. That's about it! Lol! Talk about ending on a bad note! Ugh! I'll end with a picture. | |

| Scooter likes to bathe that way, too! He especially likes it if I plug the sink and slow the water down so he has both a cascade and a growing pool. | |

| Merlin bathes like that too! I bought a special plastic bowl that I use as his bath tub. It's the easiest way to tell if he wants a bath. When I bring out the bowl, his reaction tells me if he wants a bath or not. | |

| I can't do the dishes without running the water in the other sink for Rory to play in, otherwise he tries to get in the dishwater, he likes it a lot slower too. She's just beautiful, I don't think I could ever have a normal coloured green cheek now, after having a yellow sided and a pineapple | |
