PostSubject: 2012 Calendar   2012 Calendar EmptySat Nov 12, 2011 5:01 pm

Ok. So I can't figure out how to poll/vote on the almost 50 pics in the calendar submissions. So what I want y'all to do is go to the submitted pics:
http://www.parrotparadiseforum.com/gallery/2012-PLP-Calendar-Submissions/2012-PLP-Calendar-Submissions-cat_c19.htm

Click on your favorite 12 pics and at the bottom of the pic there's a box for "rating". Rate your favorite 12 pics with 1 star. The 12 pics with the most votes will get into the calendar. If a pic's quality ends up not working for the calendar, then the next in line will get in.

I'll be checking on 11/21 and posting the winners and cost of the calendars. I'll be accepting payments for the calendars between 11/21 and 11/30. If the minimum number of calendars purchased are met (according to snapfish or vistaprint) then they'll be ordered and sent out mid December. If the minimum purchase is not met, then all monies will be refunded.

**Charitable donation - If you would like, you may purchase extra calendars to be donated to A Helping Wing (Vikki's rescue). I was thinking then A Helping Wing may sell them or whatever to generate money for the rescue. That would be up to A Helping Wing as to what they'd like to do with the extra calendars. This would also help make any minimum purchase necessary for the order.

Thanks!
And sorry for the delay.

Wall calendars through vistaprint are $7.99 right now. Don't know if that's a temporary special price. Add about $3 for my mailing cost. I'll get the exact USPS mailing price in a little while.

I'm so touched that you would like to honor JJ like that.

I don't know what the calendar will look like, how many pages will be available for photographs, or any of that sort of thing, but perhaps a collage of any birds we've lost during the year could go someplace special (back cover maybe? I don't know if it adds extra cost or not.)

No Name, Shiva, Louie, JJ ... they're all special.

Barring something like that, I'd rather leave it to the democratic process. I could've looked at my J-Bird every day, but not everyone would agree. Smile I'd hate to impose her on people who don't know what true beauty is!! LOL!

We have a Memorial Day in September, which would be more closely related to Remembrance Day than Veteran's Day.

Question: If I didn't participated so far in calendar idea, but want to order, is that possible?
Next question(sorry): Are those calendars include the most important holidays? I mean if the holidays will be printed there? I'm asking, because I have a short memory Embarassed

If everybody will order at least one calendar with destiny to go to Vikki's rescue, I bet, they could use it somehow, to make extra money for rescue/education, whatever. I like that idea 2012 Calendar 2154879677

I've made my choices but was bummed than none of Zada were there. She would be a colorful addition. As to our rescue selling extra (which would be appreciated) We aren't scheduled for any events until late Spring, so I'd think they'd be wasted, sorry to say. I will mention it though.

** IMPORTANT** WINNERS - I need higher quality pics. Please email them to me: patdbunny@hotmail.com

Here are the pic requirements: What is resolution?
Resolution determines the maximum size at which an image can be printed while retaining quality. The higher the resolution, the better the print quality. We recommend a resolution of 300 PPI (pixels per inch) at the dimensions your image will be printed. If your image resolution is lower than 300 PPI, your image may look jagged or grainy when printed.

How do I get sufficient resolution?
The resolution of digital images is determined at the time the picture is taken. To achieve sufficient resolution for one of our photo upload products, you’ll need at least a 2 Megapixel camera set to the highest resolution (a 1600 x 1200 pixel setting is perfect).

How does cropping affect resolution?
Be careful when cropping a photo after it is taken. Cropping will reduce the number of pixels (and thus, the resolution) in the final image. For example, if you had a 300 PPI image, but cropped it to half its physical size, you’d end up with a 150 PPI image.

Resolution is a little more complicated than the description given and some image handling programs tend to manipulate things in a way that isn't obvious to the end user. Assuming that the image is properly focused and that excessive digitial zoom wasn't used and/or the image was very severely cropped, what really matters is that the image be minimally size-modified from the original and that it have enough pixels. The actual mapping of pixels to physical size is easy to change, but if the image was made into a 2"x3" with 72dpi, re-mapping it to 10"x15" at 300dpi is not going to make things any better because the information was lost in the first manipulation. I hope that makes some sense.

Oops! How about: it can be sorta like silly putty... you can stretch and shrink the image over and over, but it's likely to keep getting worse, the more you do. So straight off the camera without resizing except for a little cropping is your best bet.
