PostSubject: A poop question   A poop question EmptyThu May 26, 2011 2:43 pm

So, I'm sitting here with my little guy and he's nomming and hanging out on his perch. He goes to do the deed and it made a funny noise. He didn't...the poop did. Do birds pass gas? Should they even have gas?

His poop isn't too hard or too soft, he's not straining to push it out...just kinda weird...I haven't heard it before.

This is making me both Roz and Embarassed

My birds sometimes pass gas, but I've never heard an apparent sound HaHaHa

I've heard a little farty noise before outa a bird. I look and observe for a day or so just to make sure it's an isolated event. Bubbly poops aren't supposed to be good.

It is funny though. I'm going to have to google "do birds fart?" :don\'t underst

Did a little looking. The answer is: people don't know. LOL

They don't typically need to fart. The gas escapes. I guess the noise was from Aries OR he just had a squishy poop. Didn't look abnormal...and he's pooped a couple more times now. SOOOOOOOOOO :don\'t underst

Yeah, just watch him and his poops and listen for farts for a day. Should be no big deal. Farts are rare, but I've heard them.
Talk about catching your attention and What the Heck? Roftl
Maybe you can teach him to phart on command. . .

That would be AMAZING! But...I'd want to teach him, "Chevy" too. That's the dog's name. LOL

Typically birds don't "fart" per se, their intestines aren't made to produce gas, but they can. If they do it a lot, it could be sign of a bacterial infection or worse that's causing the air build up. Once in a while our guys will have very healthy poops that have a lot of pressure behind them and they give off a loud squirt sound, but thats normal. And then again, our bigger guys belch and fart (as a lovely mimick) so its hard to tell LOL

I think it was just a healthy poop that had air behind it. It hadn't ever happened before so I was a little like...what??
