My New Acquisition

Crack out the bubbly guys! I just made a new acquisition today! Sort of impulse, but not really - unexpected purchase, but not really impulse. Anyway, I have to go set them up and I'll be back in a bit to update!

That was so an impulse buy and you know it. Such a cool one though! (Sorry everyone else, gotta take pics for her so I can't spoil the surprise yet either!)

These were very common back in the 80's when importation was still legal. There were TONS at the swap meets. They're not very common any more. I've been wanting a pair for, oh, maybe 10 years now. But I had never wanted to get the singles I'd come across just in case I couldn't find a mate. I never wanted someone else's "proven" pair either - it's true no one gets rid of a good pair. Friends get first dibs on good pairs. Pairs with issues get ditched on the unknowing.

We were at Magnolia Bird Farm today getting some supplies and they had several - enough for me to feel confident they weren't related. Apprx. 6 months old. Not sexed, but I trust the guy who got me two with his best guesstimate as male/female. I'll DNA to double check. I just couldn't pass this up.

Okay, that wing tells me exactly what I have. Drum roll please. . .
In the "good ol' days" they were called yellow-winged b b's (or bee bees) - funny, they were actually labeled as yellow-winged b.b.'s!
aka white-winged parakeets or canary-winged parakeets depending on who you ask and what the source is (I saw them and called them canary-winged)

so now we have to get another pair going so we have outside genes these were the best pets ever I remember a couple of friends having them and they were cool
