| I wasn't on any bird fair, not in bird store and didn't contacted any breeder. I didn't in any rescue center either. My boyfriend was doing something around his house, when he saw little bird almost hit by a car. Bird was unable to fly and wind carried that little bird a little bit until he passed down on a road. My bf took the bird and brought to me. I'm not sure, but it looks like house sparrow. I keep him/her in first Mango(mini) cage and we feed him/her with a baby formula left after I fed Chico. We're careful with another birds and dogs. Bird looks like it's still baby and so far I didn't hear any single noise he or she is making. One eye is open, another no. Moving slowly, but moving. Nothing looks broken. Mostly sleeping. Any suggestions what else to do/how to care for poor baby? | |

| The baby looks like it's newly fledged. If you want to try to see if it can find its parents, put him outside near where you found him in a box. Watch and see if the parents come looking for him.
If you want to keep him until he can for sure fly better, put budgie seed on the floor of the cage for him. He looks like he might be weaned.
If he's not eating on his own - I've raised baby house sparrows on dry cat food, a dash of bird vitamins and powdered baby rice cereal (that's the formula I got from the local wildlife rehab place). Run the cat food through the food processor, coffee grinder or blender to powder it. Mix 50/50 w/ the baby rice cereal. Make it up with warm water so it's thick oatmeal consistency, not runny - dash of bird vitamins after it's mixed. You'll probably need to carefully pry his beak open and put a pea size splop to the back of his throat.
Good luck with him. | |

| Thanks! So far no eating solid food and no making any noise. Started moving a little more. The only position (s)he is doing is laying down, not standing. So far somehow my birds didn't saw the bird, maybe because it's not making noise. Last year my love with his dog found out lost baby raccoon, we took care of for a while. This year is a wild bird. I asked him what's gonna be next and he answered: I'll bring you obended deer (as you know I live in apartment) | |

| Strangely enough, today I was offered to raise a baby robin.
Robins are one of my favorite birds.
Sadly though, I had to decline for a couple of reasons.
a) I don't know if it has a disease which could infect my birds. I am not going to risk the health of my babies. (If I were to take it, I would only be allowed to keep it in my room, where my birds live)
b) According to the girl, it is a hatchling.
c) I have never hand fed any animal, let alone a bird.
d) She isn't feeding it a proper diet. Just eggs. At least I believe that isn't a proper diet. So I don't know if the chick would be even healthy enough to survive.
I told the girl to call the local animal rescue. But the girl wants to "keep the bird".
I gave her all the advice I could, so hopefully she does the right thing.

| Everybody make they own bed. I keep that little guy away from my birds, but we never know. Hopefully you gave all possible advices to your friend. Does she have her own bird in her home/apartment? | |

| Most likely bugs you'll get are lice and mites. Go to WalMart and get 5% Sevin Dust in the gardening section. Dust the bottom of the cage. Wash your hands really well after handling the sparrow. Keep an eye out for crawling dots. | |

| First of all: I had to go to Polish dictionary to check what's the lice... How about the chances of inside bacterias/viruses/parasites? And yes, we wash hands each time and disinfect with alcohol lotion. | |

Not much you can do about viruses since he's already in the apartment. I don't know if the alcohol's sufficient to kill mites and lice. Washing thoroughly with warm water and soap should take care of any parasites and bacteria. Honestly, I've raided starling nests for babies off and on over the years. Knock on wood - I haven't caught anything other than mites and lice which are "easy" to get rid of. Basically, every time we go outside we risk bringing home disease on our shoes from wild bird poop. Doesn't do much good to be overly paranoid. Now, if you find an obviously sick bird outside or one that dropped dead for what seems no apparent reason - DON'T TOUCH IT!

It's the same with humans being obsessed their all life and they die i.e in car accident...But it doesn't mean, that we can't be careful- that washing hands example. We survived raccoon, so we'll survive the little bird. Of course thank you for tips! Roz, I don't know which one will be adequate, but: Xie xie! Toa chie!

I WANNA FIND A BABY RACCOON!!! That would be cool. Perfect! Baby raccoon, hm, I have to send you my Bf with his old dog. They go for a long walks in the parks, forests and once in a while find things, money or... animals. Dog won't move from place, when is alive baby animal, even if its not moving or giving any signs(noise). Somehow she(dog) knows that it's alive. The only one she's chasing is squirrels(even babies). But that's what most dogs do I guess. It was cool conversation, but I'm getting ready to sleep. And tomorrow unexpected day off, I'll do Saturday for it

| I hope he flourishes in your care! I have a vet friend on my horse forum that's rehabbed a few baby birds. Sounds like you are doing the right things. | |

| Thanks guys! Today little bird woke me up, by going nuts in his cage. I try to feed him: no more. And yes, (s)he can and do sing! My bf stopped on his way to work and we decided it's time to let him free. Bf gonna take him tonight after work, keep him overnight and let him free in the morning tomorrow near the place he find him. Thanks for all info! I'm gonna miss that little fellow(Gorrion), but I'm glad he's ok | |
