| and it wasn't that bad! Totally my fault though. I know she doesn't like me but I needed to put away and she was a brat and climbed off the big stick I was using to handle her onto my arm. She was actually pretty good (but she knew I had a treat for her, so....) and I asked her to step up onto the stick again because I have no faith in her with me the only problem was her back claw got stuck in my stupid shirt and she lost her balance so her reaction was to bite my arm. And I'm not talking about getting your balance back sort of grab but a chomp down and grind your beak bite! definitely bruising and broken skin even through the shirt. I think if I was someone she liked/trusted there wouldn't have been a bite. She's very gentle if she likes you (she likes tan people for the most part, it seems, and I'm anything but tan...) but I'm actually happy she bit me because now I know what to expect and feel more confident around the big guys. so I've narrowed my dream flock to an Amazon (I'm partial to BFs) and either a cherry headed conure or a hahns macaw plus Rainbow of course | |

| I'm going to the pet store and bother all Amazons I'll see to check how hard is the bite Just kidding, somehow I'm not afraid of bites. I'm glad you experienced that bite and still feel OK. Moa, and what kind of bird it was? | |

| Ya know, your first big bird bite is a totally virginal experience. You really have no idea what to expect until it happens. I'd venture a guess that every one of them is different though!
Congratulations!??! I'm glad you're able to join the club now?!

| My first big bird bite was a B&G Macaw (was trying to get him back to his "tree," away from the nest he was trying to make for his woman. Uh oh!) My daughter's was a U2, on her neck, she's got the scar to prove it. | |

| Yes, my only one fear so far are Macaws. Not that I don't like them, but somehow I'm afraid of their bites. And that's why I never put fingers in their cages. Anybody has similar unexplained fear? | |

| I love Hyacinth macaws. There's one that boards sometimes at a bird shop we go to. She seems to be very, very sweet, but every time I think about picking her up, I can't help thinking "but they can chew through chain link fence!".
I guess I really haven't had a big bird bite. Scotty has yet to really chomp on me. And next to a Hyacinth he doesn't seem so fearsome.

| Somehow I just don't think about those things (chain-link fences, etc.) when I'm picking up a bird. I just put my arm out and tell it to step up. It'll probably cost me a finger one of these days! LOL!
And I just don't ever put my fingers through the bars of a cage. Ever. I'd be pissed if people started poking their arms through the windows of my house, so I don't do that to a bird unless the owner tells me that the bird is one who enjoys scritches that way.

| thanks capt I think just having her on my arm was enough of an adrenaline rush for me! the bruise is fading now and it's scabbed over. She did a surprising amount of damage through that thick of a shirt but it wasn't a really sensitive area. Now I'm itching to go play with some more big birdies | |
