| I am really surprised, with the vast wealth of technology out there, that there is no one searchable database of codes to be able to look up or at least narrow down where the bird you have originated.
Two of my birds have bands with "NYS" in them, which I am assuming is NY State, or something similar given that I was living in NY at the time I acquired them, but....
Anyone know of any good info on bands? We often get birds in at the rescue that I wish we could do some kind of trace on. | |

| The only luck I have ever had was with L&M they will help if the breeder or purchaser is still in their database. any AFA bands are usually easier to trace | |

| Well i know a little about researching bands.GOOD LUCK .the deal is ,if your bird is ringed (Closed band) it's put there by the breeder.(approx 10 days of age).Breeders can buy bands with most any thing on them.Your best source is to call band manufacturers and ask if they made that band. If they did they won't disclose who's band it is, they can tell you if they made it ,but won;t say for who.They will (if you ask nice) contact the breeder and give them your info.But then it's up to the breeder to call you ,if they want too. PM me any numbers if you like and i'll check into it.I know a lot of bands /breeders ,and will check into it for you,NYS sounds like a state registered band,Check with NY state Fish and Wildlife or health Dept. | Awesome, thanks. And funny, what started this is that I had to fill out the licensing forms for our birds last night (through the NJ Fish and Wildlife Dept) and it got me to wondering about the bands. My only worry is that Pickles band (which fell off when he was younger and we still have) is completely worn smooth with no dissernable letters or numbers at all. I mentioned this in the form, hopefully they won't give us too much crap about it since we've had him for 16 yrs. | |

| hey, after looking at those band #s,i think those ones with the NYS # can be traced thought NY State Fish and Wildlife. | |
