I'm not really new, just found a new perch. :)

A lot of you know me from AA. I also used to be active on another forum I wasn't too fond of, but I see some members are here.

Just flew in to say hi! Not sure how active I'll be yet since things are really busy here but I hope to see all of your smiling tweeties around!

hope to hear stories about your flock, how is cupcake doing? your green cheek conures are adorable. I'm thinking of fostering/adopting another gcc from a bird rescue hereabouts, if all goes well...

Cupcake is doing wonderfully. He is finally dna'd, but I often slip up and call him a her. On a pelleted and fresh food diet and enjoying a lot of time with his window perch. He stopped plucking for a while but recently has started again. No old owner in sight.

Haha, I will try to sit down and finish all of their stories...some of them are on the blog but that's a when I have time thing.

Monty's story brought me to tears. Eclectus have eyes that see right into your soul, what an amazing fella you have!

my friend got her cockatiel from mickaboo! such a great rescue, I keep meaning to take one of their bird care classes. I'm happy Monty found such a good home after all hes been through.

Oh yes, Monty has been officially adopted. It's been a bit of a trial sometimes (testing new waters) but we love him. I actually just read on your blog that their expected lifespan is 20 years...is that true? Seems awfully short for such a big guy.

I was surprised by that number, too. Apparently that list was compiled from only sources that could be verified like vet records, breeder records w/ hatch dates as to maximum age reported in captivity. I'll try to find the exact list again and double check what data was included and what wasn't. 20 years does make sense if the list is a little dated. I would think before their nutritional requirements were determined, eclectus would have been fed an all seed diet like all our other birds. I'd think the eclectus would die younger than other parrots on an all seed diet.

Glad you guys kept Monty. He and your hubby seem to really get along.

They do...and I love him dearly. I got bit several times for a while (no feathers means hard to read body language) and he was under a lot of stress. Things have been doing much better now though.
