| Aside from my tiels, I also have a 6½-year-old white German Shepherd named Lexi and a red and blue male VT (veil tail) betta named Duskie. | |

| We have a 55 gallon tank full of mixed tropical fish. He-Man themed tank. One beta, Scarlet O'Beta. She lives in a nice sized tank decked out in SpongeBob. One cat, Whitley aka Bubba Kitty. Stray cat who we feed and let come in and hang out. Black and white like a cow so our toddler always says "Hey Moo!" so we call him Moo too!

| Kitty here, doggie at my mom's. I also have two 10G aquariums, one holding a Betta and the other some Harlequin Rasboras. A pet peeve I remembered... I friggin' hate the "Bettas live in footprints in the wild". Um... NO they don't, they live in rice paddies that stretch out for miles. Mine is in a heated and filtered tank | |

| We're down to three dogs now: Sable, 9 year old, 70#, black Shepherd x. The sweetest dog you'll ever meet. Oscar, 7 year old, 40#, terrier x (we think he's a Schnauzer/Scottie, so we call him a "Schnottie"). He's a PITA, but we love him. (He's ACTUALLY Sable's dog! lol!) Phoebe, 5 yr old, 6.5# Yorkie. She's a purebred PITA. We spent a ton of money for me to have the cute little dog I wanted, then she picked my husband... who doesn't even like dogs. Go figure. So I got birds. At least they like me most of the time. | |

| It's nice to see others have a betta besides me. Keeping bettas and fish in general, which I've done before, is so much fun. I started in the hobby with a 5 gallon, moved to a 10, and ended up with a 20 gallon. I had tetras of all kinds, koolie loaches, and several kinds of catfish to name a few. I'm back to a small 3 gallon tank now in which I just house one betta at a time. It's so much easier that way. | |

| Sagira, the fat cat (he's not any breed, he was a feral rescue when he was 7weeks) Chevy the Min Pin I miss my 60 gallon tank I used to keep Discus fish. They are AMAZING and just the most beautiful fish I can think of. I also had a red double tail beta named Firehose (my niece named him) Like I said, I miss my tanks. | |

| We have two kitties, Nikki and Pepe Le Pew, who are missing Ariel as are we. I also have a horse, Clifton Smint, but he's currently being leased by a couple of young girls who will probably end up owning him.
I'd love to have a saltwater tank, but haven't taken the plunge, so to speak.

They're not that bad. Definitely don't have a crowded tank though.

| how do you guys keep your fishies alive?? I feel terrible about all the fish that have suffered under my incompetent care and have vowed never to get more (though a tiny part of me wants to try just one more time.... they're so cool to watch ) I'm not allowed other pets besides rainbow but I'd love to smuggle in a rat, iguana, or ball python.... | |

I vote rat - it's like a puppy with a creepy tail. But a ball python's easier to hide. Not that I would know. . . or had to hide animals from my parents who didn't like animals like I did. . . not that I have any tips on how to hide animals from your parents. . . I'm a parent so that would be an irresponsible thing. . . but if I were a teen. . .

The main problem with them is that they don't live very long. They are smart and affectionate pets, and quite clean -- his were all trick trained and took baths once a week...

| I could see us going for a rat, since they are reputed to be very smart. Not gonna happen here in Alberta, though, as it is rat free. They won't allow them to be sold here for fear that someone would lose their pet or release it on purpose. We have an entire department of the government devoted to keeping it that way. It is illegal to have a pet rat here. | |

What?! That's ridiculous! A domestic rat wouldn't last a week in the "wild". Yeah, they really don't live long enough at all - like ferrets.

| Bettas are easy to take care of, but require a heater and a filtered tank to thrive since they're tropical. One will survive in a bowl, but the poor fish is cold its entire life. | |

| I say the same thing as GO - filtered tank w/ heater. A little one's cheap at Walmart. And then a couple of small docile fish with a betta are nice to watch.
I think you were saying you don't do well with fish. I think most people fail when they mess with them too much. Too much testing, too much adjusting. You kinda have to just wait until "and then a miracle occurred" when it's cycled and the bugs have equalized.
What do you do that kills fish?

| Not sure why these old threads were highlighted for me. I must be having technical difficulties...or lack of coffee! Aside from Fids we are owned by: - Gideon & Fynn - Rhodesian Ridgebacks We were owned by Saxafrage (Kitten of 7 years), but while we were selling our house/moving/etc., she remained at my in-laws (the dogs were there until we sold, and promptly came home!)...they kept making excuses as to why we should leave her at their place for a little bit longer. MIL's birthday was last week, so we gave them a new name tag with their address and contact information, and decided Kitten is good for their marriage (MIL just retired...the Kitten takes up a lot of her time, hence FIL is much happier!). She lives 5 minutes away, so is still in our lives - but she has it REALLy good now | |

| Aside from our 5 fids, we have 3 cats... Aowyn is a 6 yr old tuxedo, Itty Bitty is a 3 yr old gray and white tabby and Maximus Orangmus (Maxx) is a 3 yr old orange tabby, long hair angora mix. We did have a 72 gallon bow front salt tank with live coral, anemone, crabs, octopi and various tropical fish (clowns, tangs, angels, damsels...) but the expense of running such a lively tank became overbearing after Bryan lost his job. We'd like to redo the tank, possibly set it up in the playroom of the new rescue. Who knows. Jeanne and John have 2 rescue grayhounds (Frankie and Daffy) who are part of our family as well as a hamster named bamboo, a gecko and an iguana....yeah... we're turning into a wildlife sanctuary it seems LOL Here's a pic of our tank in its heyday | |
