Pea things are not very smart

I tried to teach our tame peacock to walk on a leash yesterday. Discovered they don't have a lot of brain in that little tiny head of theirs. Not too sure if he learned to walk on a leash at all yesterday or not. Going to keep trying.

I thought chicken were pretty neat,but boy are they stupid!!! I would like to see a peacock on a leash.

We have talked about getting a turkey.Maybe a couple,,

They are beautiful birds, but I never found them particularly pleasant. Then again, my main exposure was at a boarding barn where I was taking care of a couple of horses, one of which pretty much had a screw looose... and the peacocks loved to jump up on the fence railings and jumps and display without warning. LOL. Is the tame one actually friendly?

I incubator hatched him last year so he's imprinted on humans. They're very reactionary animals. I go into the pen where I have him and he freaks out for a few seconds until he realizes I'm human and he's not afraid of humans. He eats out of my hand. I can carry him around on my arm like a parrot. We can hug him. He's not into being petted. (My thoughts are that birds that don't allopreen don't seem to like petting - IRNs being another bird that generally doesn't like petting and they don't allopreen.) So, yeah, I guess he's actually "friendly"; just not a lot of thinking going on in that brain it seems.

You want dumb - Turkeys are dumb. Apparently the domestic ones cannot reproduce without human intervention. I bought a baby turkey years ago. The feed store sent me off with a baby chick to make sure the baby turkey didn't forget how to eat once I got it home.

Yeah we were thinking of wild turkeys,they're kind of pricey.

Do you have any wild flocks in your area? You could always keep a net in the car and catch some babies. It's almost that time of year!

That would make it a peahen. Peacocks are males. Peacocks and Peahens are Peafowl. Pedantic enough yet? A quick gander around the internet suggests they don't get their full plumage until they are 3 or so years old.

It IS a peaTeen. I'm pretty sure it's a peacock. SnS is right - the tail doesn't come in until about 3 YO. Some start coming in at 2, so at least another year. The tail's seasonal. They drop it after the breeding season and even the males are pretty drab.

Zaza - I want an ostrich! But getting the snot kicked outa me by an ostrich doesn't sound appealing. . . When Derp loses his balance on my arm he beats me up pretty good. Don't want to deal with an ostrich!

I actually think the bird is pretty just like it is. The cocks tails are amazing,and the feathers are TDF, but the bird is just a pretty bird sitting on your shoulder.
