| Not sure if this belongs in housing or toys, so mods feel free to move it as you see fit!
Looking to build a java tree-ish play stand/perch deal for my flock. Any ideas? |

| Can you access manzanita or huge honkin' grape vines?
Is your hubby handy?
I like using things like plastic under bed storage containers for the base. They're usually pretty big, cheap and some have wheels. If you need more weight in the base, you can screw in a piece of plywood to it before attaching the perch parts.

| He is handy, very handy, but no to the others. It seems for what I coud buy the wood online for I could just buy a whole java stand for just a bit more. I'd rather make my own. |

| I was drawing up plans for a playstand for my guys earlier, so funny I see this. I have two cheap-y tables from Walmart ($10 for the set) and I'm going to use one for the base. From that, I need (4) 2" x 2" x 36" dowels, (2) 12" x 1/2" dowels, (1) 18" x 1/4" dowel, (1) 12" x 1/4" dowel, 2 treat cups, a party platter tray and 5 or so toy hooks. I'm planning on using store bought ladder toys and making my own get-a-grip net.
I'm planning on screwing one of the thicker dowels into the center of the table and screwing the party platter serving tray on top of that. On the bottom "layer", I'm going to cut one of the 2 x 2 x 36 in half and use those and a 12" x 1/2" inch dowel to make a perch with toys hooks. I'm going to do this on each side of the table. The top will have a homemade t-perch and an overhanging perch with a swing at the end.

| i DO IT A BIT DIFERENT, I BUY stands from yard sales and my birds love them.Just look for floor lamps that have a large base and put a branch on top. | |

| I don't have a scanner and I'm not good at drawing up my ideas with Photoshop (or by hand!) but this is what I've come up with so far.

| My bird's tree came from boyfriend yard and stand was found by bf and his dog somewhere in the mug in park... It's good, but only for small birds as mine are. K.; Pretty good plan! Good luck | |

Thanks! Just need to get the stuff to build it. Overall, minus the cost of a drill and toys to hang, it will cost about $20. The wooden dowels are $0.98 for 1/4" thickness, $1.39 for 1/2" thickness, and $2.98 for the 2"x2"x36" post.

| looks cool! I'm thinking I need some summer projects and want to make another (better) playstand than I have now. mine cost under two dollars, for the foldup table from a yard sale and for the screw. branches from my lemon tree were free. Heres what mine looks like (yeah... its ugly but it works okay!)
