So, I get e-mail updates on horses as I have a few of them too. Today I got the following:

"Training Tip of the Week: Be aware of your actions."
This is applicable to parrots, too. Pause a second before you respond to your bird and think about what you're responding to so you don't inadvertently reinforce behaviors you don't want.

When a bird's quiet or entertaining itself in its cage, people usually leave them alone since they're quiet. That actually the time you should go talk to the bird, give it a treat, join in its play - reinforce the good behavior. "Catch them being good" works for parrots, too!
