PostSubject: The New Bird Room   The New Bird Room EmptyWed Aug 31, 2011 1:29 pm

I finally got around to taking some pictures of the new bird room. I love that they have their own space. Not that I don't like being around them, but now their mess is more contained.

I think it looks pretty damn good Smile

There's also enough room for another cage in the room...kakariki? Bourke? Someday Smile

I love it! flappinhappy

If I can suggest you anything, I would put the newspaper on TOP of the grate and pull the newspaper up on the sides of the cage bars so they act as a seedskirt. Smile That's what I started doing, and the area is SO much tidier and easier to clean.

When I moved in, the landlord was shocked at how big the cages were.

The drive there was actually a lot more peaceful than I thought it would be.

Einstein sat beside me and my brother, while the budgies cage was on the ground below Einstein. Everyone could see me, and I know that they defiantly felt calmer when I was in view.

Bonnie spent the entire time on the bottom of the cage. I guess the road was too bumpy for her. Einstein stayed perched as close as possible to me, and was very quiet.

When we got here, their cages weren't set up for a few days. Einstein had to be able to see me at all times. He started screaming when I left the room, so I just brought his travel cage all over with me.

When they were settled into their cages, I thought it would be good to take them out. Everyone was uncertain, so suddenly, I had three birds attached to me. It was kind of nice having the budgies trust me completely. But now they're more settled, and the budgies have become independent again (*sigh*).

Alyssa - I was thinking about you on the 31st & 1st! My Clark Kent Day job sent me up to Thunder Bay for a 1 night event (ugh, landing & taking off 4 times each in a 24 hour period of time = exhausting).

You will LOVE having a separate area for the fids - containing mess = :bliss:

Glad to hear you're settling in ok. It looks like a great setup!

Now go and have a Persian - they're TB's equivalent to a Beavertail/Poutine in Ottawa!

PostSubject: Re: The New Bird Room   The New Bird Room EmptyThu Sep 08, 2011 6:38 pm

So today I was at the University doing orientation stuff.

One of the activities was to get a tour of all your classrooms. When we checked out one of the rooms, it was filled with literally hundreds of persians.

Being the nice person I am, I didn't take any.

Later on in the day, I kept spotting people eating pink icing. So I started to track down where the persians were being distributed.

Finally, I found a stand, with empty containers persian containers.

*sigh*

Maybe tomorrow.

I'm having SO much fun reading about your adventures! All the foods, the city, the experience you're having, it's nothing I ever had! I went off to college - and I had a blast, but it wasn't like what you're doing. I'm so glad you're writing about it and sharing it with us. It makes me smile every time I read something you post about it!

And your bird room looks absolutely grand! I can imagine what a nice feeling it was having the budgies sticking to you for a while... all of a sudden the independent ones are needing some security, huh? Smile Oh well, it was nice while it lasted! lol

Keep writing! You never know, it might make a fun book some day!

Have you been to the Sleeping Giant yet? I haven't been there (just seen it from across the Lake).

And Shame on you for having your chance and not taking it with the Persians Smile I'm not one for sweets, but it could be a nice treat every few months Wink

On Saturday I went hiking on the Sleeping Giant. It was so beautiful, but a tough trail. I swear, at some points I had to climb up rock walls.

Yesterday, I tried my first Persian. And it was GOOD. Smile

The birds are all settled in and doing great.
