okay so i am in school for animal care i learn various things from
grooming, vet tech, equine, pet shop, and doggy day care. we have
animals in all of the labs. we have parrots in the pet shop lab that i
adore parakeets that have babies all the time, a very aggressive quaker
named billy, a timid and shy maxamillion pionus named max, and a very
chatty red rumped parakeet named clyde mate bonnie died. they are very
well taken care of and given a lot of attention but i just think all of
them would do better with a mate. my teacher agrees with me so im on a
mission to find mates for at least max and clyde! billy will be another
story because hes so aggressive.. hes actually bitten off the one of the
parakeets legs because students in the past werent quick enough to grab
him (the parakeet went home with the teacher and is very well taken
care of and his needs are met for his disability) so i dont think
putting another bird with him is a good idea. but i was hoping that
maybe you guys may know a red rump parakeet breeder and maxamillion
pionus breeder that ships or is in ohio area near cleveland. preferably
adults if possible but if not thats okay! if you have any suggestions of
a different species they could live with that would work to! any
suggestions on a mate for billy would be appreciated Smile thank you in
advance!

Regarding a friend for Billy - Bucky was VERY bird aggressive too. He'd go after other birds in much the same way Billy does, until he met another Quaker. I took him into the store one day when there happened to be a juvenile Quaker in there. I opened the cage door and held Buck up to meet him, Buck went on guard like he usually does until the Quaker made a Quaker sound - and Bucky RECOGNIZED it! Then they started talking Quaker to each other. Within 5 minutes, my HIGHLY bird aggressive bird was preening another (male) bird.

Living at his new home, I'm told he doesn't get along with any of the other birds, except for the other Quaker.

So what's the point? I suggest looking on Craig'sList or even contacting a local breeder in your area and telling them what you're looking for and why. You might find that there are people willing to work with schools (maybe even make a donation? Who knows?). That's what I'd try. But I'd definitely look for a Quaker, nothing else. For whatever reason, that's what seems to work.

If he's a boy for sure then you just need a wild , mean hen Quaker .Feathers might fly at first but it wouldn't be long before dynamite couldn't ply them apart.

Has Billy ever been tame? What I mean is, was he raised as a pet or was he raised as a breeder?

If he was raised as a pet and is just being a mean Quaker, I have to respectfully disagree with Capt! (Sorry Capt! Sad ) I think if you introduce a Quaker hen, tame or not, they'll get along. He'll be so happy to have someone who "speaks his language" that he'll be fine. Of course, I wouldn't just throw the bird in the cage with him but I don't think you need to have two nasty birds in your classroom either.

Billy was a pet at one time and of course some really crappy owner didnt give him the attention he needs and he got mean and they "donated" him to the school. we get so many calls about birds people dont want anymore Sad i would take them all if i could!
